View Full Version : We are having a barbecue :)

No Prime Left Behind has thrown down the gauntlet at our feet once again.
We have not responded very well in the past so needless to say, they handed us our a$$es.
Now they are feeling over confident (read cocky) and are needing some Free-DC style smack down humble pie.

The barbeque ('rally' as they call it) will be held between Jan. 23rd-25th.
It starts at 7 PM GMT so don't be late!

You can read more on it over in the NPLB forum here on Free-DC
http://www.free-dc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17547

We have stats galore for this project now.
http://stats.ironbits.net/statsnew/

And Bok's most excellent stats here
http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=proj&proj=nplb

And there is a rumor that AMDave might be able to give us some gauntlet stats. :thumbs:

Bring your :roadkill: signs to :D
:bigtrain: Free-DC Train is coming.... :cheers:

It's easy to run. Here is the config file

server = "nplb.ironbits.net"
port = 8000

username = "YourHandleHere"
serviceName = "NPLB1"

--once = 1
WUCacheSize = 1

GUIport = 6991
GUImask = "255.255.255.255"
GUIallow = "127.0.0.1"
GUIpassword = "llrnet"
workFile = "workfile.txt"
tosendFile = "tosend.txt"
sendRetries = 0

We have a 4 core setup ready to go here for windows: http://www.ironbits.net/files/llrnet-4core-win.rar
We have a 8 core setup ready to go here for windows: http://www.ironbits.net/files/llrnet-8core-win.rar
We have a single core setup for Linux ready to go here: http://www.ironbits.net/files/llrnet-1core-linux.rar

For Windows
Extract the .rar file, then go into each folder you have a core for
NPLB\NPLB1 - edit the llr-clientconfig.txt file for YourHandleHere, save it, then double click on llrnet.exe
NPLB\NPLB2 - edit the llr-clientconfig.txt file for YourHandleHere, save it, then double click on llrnet.exe
NPLB\NPLB3 - edit the llr-clientconfig.txt file for YourHandleHere, save it, then double click on llrnet.exe
NPLB\NPLB4 - edit the llr-clientconfig.txt file for YourHandleHere, save it, then double click on llrnet.exe

For Linux
Extract the .rar file, go into the folder NPLB
for each core you have do this
cp NPLB1 NPLB2
cp NPLB1 NPLB3
cp NPLB1 NPLB4

cd into each folder: cd NPLB\NPLB1 - edit the llr-clientconfig.txt file for YourHandleHere, save it
cd into each folder: cd NPLB\NPLB2 - edit the llr-clientconfig.txt file for YourHandleHere, save it
cd into each folder: cd NPLB\NPLB3 - edit the llr-clientconfig.txt file for YourHandleHere, save it
cd into each folder: cd NPLB\NPLB4 - edit the llr-clientconfig.txt file for YourHandleHere, save it
cd .. back to YourLoginID home directory

Edit a new file called .screenrc-clients and put the following lines into it (edit path if you need to)

startup_message off
autodetach on
hardstatus alwayslastline
hardstatus string '%{= kG}[ %{G}%H %{g}][%= %{=kw}%?%-Lw%?%{r}(%{W}%n*%f%t%?(%u)%?%{r})%{w}%?%+Lw%?%?%= %{g}][%{B}%Y-%m-%d %{W}%c %{g}]'

#chdir
#screen -t shell 0

chdir /home/YourLoginID/nplb/nplb1
screen -t nplb1 1 ./llrnet

chdir /home/YourLoginID/nplb/nplb2
screen -t nplb2 2 ./llrnet

chdir /home/YourLoginID/nplb/nplb3
screen -t nplb3 3 ./llrnet

chdir /home/YourLoginID/nplb/nplb4
screen -t nplb4 4 ./llrnet

save it!

create a new file called screens and put the following in it
#!/bin/sh
screen -O -S nplb-clients -c ~/.screenrc-clients

save it!

type chmod 775 screens
type ./screens
type CTRL-a then the letter d to detach from the screens window

To see what they are up to, type screen -list and you will see something similar below

There is a screen on:
30563.nplb-clients (Detached)

to attach to it, just type screen -r 30563.nplb-clients
to detach again, ctrl-a then the letter d :)

sit back and enjoy your stats :D

Looks like ROLP (Raiders of the Lost Prime) are starting to dig deeper for more cores.
Keep up the pressure, 1 or 2 cores, anything you can spare would be great!
Don't forget your signs :)

Beyond you trying to say the server won't hold out....
I think it will, unless someone brings something really big to the party.

I'm just saying it will be a very good test of the server if Free-DC and ROLP go head to head on this one.

The n values of the range being tested is small enough that even AMD machines will make a good showing, so the potential firepower maybe more than the server has seen/experienced.

OK. I guess I'll stick a couple cores on for once, if I get time to figure it out and get it up and running today.

The real question is, can the server handle the load. :D

So long as you don't use a proxy server, we are good to go.
Set your cache to 10-25 or something to help... :)

Recently, we were doing almost 200,000 pairs per day and it didn't hiccup once, over on port 9000, where the times were as low as 3 seconds to complete.

If it breaks, it breaks, at least we'll eventually find out where the limit is per port. ;)

It can handle at least 400 cores, but YOU should be going nice and easy after you go above 40 cores with all that iron you have over there! ;)

Yes, send me your email addresses to so I can turn on auto-notify if you want.

from nplb forum -
These is a user (Fozzie) on IB8000 who is creating rejected pairs quite regularly. My guess is that he/she is running LLRNET more than once in a folder. Can an admin look into this and notify that person about a possible fix. Hate to see someone waste resources.

Fozzie, make sure you only run one client per directory!

Gary thinks we should be able to handle up to 1600 cores without any problem.

Another issue to you to solve:

Can someone get ahold of LaurenU2? He is submitting tons of rejected results every hour. I have no idea what he could be doing....running the same pairs on 2 different machines?

Also, he has 2-3 new primes that he needs to submit to top-5000 and post here. I tried Emailing him a few hours ago and haven't gotten a response. I don't know if he comes to this forum any.

David or Carlos, if you can contact him, perhaps at Free-DC, to let him know about the primes and rejected results, that would be helpful.

The rejected results kind of make me wonder about a possible proxy server. We don't want that with this kind of firepower on the rally. He may not be aware that we don't allow proxy servers.

Instructions for submitting a top-5000 prime:

Go to http://primes.utm.edu/primes/home.php.

Step 1: For people who have not submitted top-5000 primes previously, create a prover account:
1. Select 'Submit' on the lower left side under 'Join in'.
2. Select the 'click here to create a prover-account' link in the middle of the page.
3. Fill out the form and submit it. You will be assigned a prover account.

Step 2: Create a proof code:
1. Go to the home page in the link above and select 'Index' on the left side under 'Provers'.
2. Next to 'search prover-accounts', type yours and press enter.
3. Click on your prover account (there may be one or several) and press enter.
4. Towards the bottom, click on 'Create a New Proof-Code' and press enter.
5. If necessary in the little pop-up box, type in your user name (prover account) and password and press enter.
6. You should now have a list of proof programs. Select LLR.
7. In the space below all the programs, type in 'PrimeSearch' for the project and 'Srsieve' for the sieving software. Separate each selection by a comma. (Obviously if you did an individual-k search on your own, then the software may vary.)
8. You should now have a new proof code and can submit the prime. Example...L442.

Step 3: Submit the prime:
1. Go to the home page in the link above and select 'Index' on the left side under 'Provers'.
2. Next to 'search proof-code', type your new code from step 2 and press enter.
3. Towards the bottom, next to 'Submit primes using this code as', click on your name (prover account) and press enter.
4. If necessary in the little pop-up box, type in your user name (prover account) and password and press enter.
5. You should see a big free-form box. Type in your prime (no spaces needed) and click 'Press here to submit these prime(s)'.
6. A verification screen will come up. If the prime is correct, click 'Press here to complete submission'.

So I don't know why there are so many rejected from him.

Anyone else have any clues?

I have....you are using the sr5 llrnet version. Maybe that's the issue. Here's my llrnet win version:

You can see that it 2x the size of the one you use. Maybe there was an error on compiling the sr5 llrnet version.

Is it faster or slower?
I didn't compile it...

The smaller .exe is newer, and we don't need no GUI crap. ;)

08/18/2006 06:56 PM 3,364,950 llrnet.exe
04/28/2005 12:50 AM 6,425,088 llrnet.exe

I've never had that problem, however, if Lauren wants to hunt down the problem on his end...
As Max suggested, he can search lresults.txt in each client's folder and look for "rejected"
He's still working on it, and it's not all that bad, so I believe he has just one or two extra clients running by accident in the same folder...
He will find it and fix it... it takes time to look through 80+ Quads ...

There is no difference other than the sr5 version being able to handle more than just base 2 test.

I have....you are using the sr5 llrnet version. Maybe that's the issue. Here's my llrnet win version:

http://em99010pepe.googlepages.com/llrnet.zip

You can see that it 2x the size of the one you use. Maybe there was an error on compiling the sr5 llrnet version.

Sorry I'm late to the party but I just added 4 cores from my Q9550 @ 3.4GHz. I'm not sure how you assign yourself to FreeDC team for the gauntlet, but my user name for this is "JeffGilchrist".

Currently each core is getting about 0.350ms per iteration. Does that seem good?

If I right click on the tray icon I don't see anything, am I supposed to?

- Ironbits or AMDave will add you to Free-DC.
- Very good.
- It's due to llrnet version but you can open the console window, right click on try icon. I will upload my llrnet version with the GUI where you will be able to see what's going on on all cores, give me a few minutes.

I just ran that version you want others to use and you are right, you are given a limited gui, but no one needs it, the console version shows you what is going on just as well.
It also has a smaller footprint which is nice to and it get's the job done.
I don't recommend it for first time users.
The version I put up for 4 and 8 cores, and sent to Lauren, start up in the task tray like it should.

Just chose show console and you can watch it work, then hide console when you have seen enough :)
Yes, good work.
Got you covered, added to Free-DC, welcome :D

The sr5 version can do other tests not just base 2 but it has little functionality.

Biggest negative aspect of that version for me is the broken network monitoring.
Personally i wouldn't use it unless the project was testing other than base 2.

All my clients are running in the background as services and i have no idea
what there status is unless i log on.

With the GUI running on one machine i have added all the others so i can keep tabs on them all the time.

PCZ

Sort of like Fahmon but not so feature rich.

I am using instsrv and srvany for the services, the inbuilt service installer doesn't seem to work well for multiple clients on the same machine.

Ok so I installed your version, do I then run llrnet.exe in each of my 4 folders and then after that run the remote-gui.bat file in one of the folders?

When I do, the GUI window opens and says "Connecting to client..." for each of the 4 clients, but there is no info in the info or console tabs. What am I doing wrong?

PCZ

Check the ports in the ini file.

In each of the llr folders there will be a llr-clientconfig.txt

check this section
-- if several clients are running on the same machine, give each of them
-- a different GUI port to listen to
GUIport = 7001

you need a different port for each client running on the same machine.
each one needs its own folder as well.
i use ports 7001 - 7004 on quads.

-- uncomment the following line to allow remote control of your client
-- see also options below to configure who can connect
GUIremote = 1
-- Add the GUIremote = 1 statement if it is missing from your ini.

If you want to monitor a local machine only
right click on one of the tray icons and open a new gui.
running remotegui.bat is not necessary for local monitoring.

set up the monitoring to match your port numbers and password.

localhost port 7001 password llrnet
localhost port 7002 password llrnet
localhost port 7003 password llrnet
localhost port 7004 password llrnet

I use network monitoring so i have to change this section
Shouldn't be necessary for local monitoring.

-- example allowing any connection on a local network 192.168.1.*
GUImask = "255.255.255.0"
GUIallow = "192.168.1.0"

-- GUI password, it is strongly recommended to change it
-- if you don't restrict GUI clients to local connections
GUIpassword = "private"

-- uncomment the following line to allow remote control of your client
-- see also options below to configure who can connect
GUIremote = 1

Thanks, I had all the ports setup but I was missing the GUIremote=1 since it wasn't in the config which must have been based on what IronBits posted in his non-GUI version.

Now working.

Sockets start at 6...

Some of it confirms the work was accurate by someone else and sometimes you find a new one that was not found before. Luck of the draw I guess.
