what OS are you running? windows or linux or something else?

if you are connected, it probably just sent them
or are you on dial up and not connected?

which switches do you have set?

I'm running Windows XP SP1, I use a Cable connection to connect to the internet. I notice every 5000 units it sends in a file to the server, and also when i exit. But i'm wondering if i'm processing the same units everytime i restart the program since it goes down to 0. I'm used to SETI, where if you close the program, it picks up right where it left off when you reopen it. are my points being tallied on the server? or is my program supposed to keep a running number in a file someware and start from that point?

Thecommi: Each structure you generate is independant and random so the program doesn't need to "start where it left off". All the structures you generate are sent to the server and tallied there. As you discovered, if you stop the program and restart it, the structure count starts at zero, it is not meant to count the total number of structures you have processed.

Go to the main web site www.distributedfolding.org and check your stats, that is the best way to see if you are "losing" structures. You will see that count increasing every time you upload structures to the server. That will keep track of the total number of structures you have submitted.

Hope that helps. ;)

Each time you "start" the client, the program creates a "random seed" based upon a combination of the process ID of the program and the time.

This "seed" is then used to as the basis of the sampling that your client does until such time as you get a "new" seed...when the client is started the next time.

It resets the structure count to zero, but if you check your stats, they should increase within ~20 minutes of when you see the file sent from your computer to the DF server.

Hope that helps and welcome! :)

When you registered with Dist/Fold, you had the chance to join a team. You can find all teams listed here (http://www.distributedfolding.org/teampages/teamidx.html) alphabetically, as well as the teamless folk.

You may join a team, quit all teams, or change teams at any time. To the great chagrin of some folks, all your accumulated points go with you. :D

You haven't made it to 4.25 million structures yet, as http://www.statsman.org/distfoldingstats/html/users.html doesn't list you among the top 1000 users.

If you still can't find yourself (!), ring back in with your team name and we'll try again.

You can log in to see your stats on the page http://www.distributedfolding.org/login.html, or click on "High flyers" in the menu.
