Congratulations to The Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (GIMPS)! On April 12th, Odd Magnar Strindmo of Norway discovered the 47th known Mersenne prime, 2^42,643,801-1. It is the second largest known prime at 12,837,064 digits, only 141,125 digits smaller than the Mersenne prime found last August.
