Some update of the very long term of the Fe30 series and others: The first basic question behind these (enormous!!!) calculations is whether these molecule exhibits so-called spin glass behaviour or not and what is the origin of that. Spin glasses are still a very hot topic in general physics but until now it has been only observed in large three dimensional bulk systems. If Fe30 would show spin glass behaviour we would have the first ZERO dimensional spin glass (just 30 spins on a sphere!) in history! The second basic question addresses the stability of the chemical synthesis process of Fe30: To what extend is the synthesis process stable, i.e. produces exactly the same kind of structure in each run? Until know it has been stated that there is no variation at all. However, a couple of month ago a group of chemists has presented a different kind of Fe30. Regarding applications we just got a grant from the German Research Foundation in Bielefeld where on of the scopes is to put these molecules on surfaces and study the modified magnetism. Here we hope to find some interesting effect . however, nobody can tell yet! After that project we have plans for several different projects. We have created a new client which will be released soon for so-called Quantum Monte Carlo calculations. With these calculations we can study quantum effects in the molecules in great detail (please be patient for further details soon!). Another project in our pipeline deals with the extension of the client in order to calculate dynamical response functions. These properties start to become important in the magnetic molecule community in order to study dynamical effects, i.e. the reaction of a molecule to a time varying magnet field. Such effects can answer many basic questions but also can help to answer the question for the usefulness of a special molecule for magnetic memory devices.
