Do cd's play in a dvd-rom?

I'm shopping for a notebook for my wife. And I see some that say they have dvd. Does that mean that the dvd also plays cds?

Yes, DVD-ROMs will play music CDs.

Sure. Don't worry, every DVD is actually DVD+CD reader.
Some of them are slightly worse in reading of scratched CDs.
(Just my opinion.)
