I'm assuming this has to do with Howard's earlier database problems. Evidently all the user IDs have now changed. :(

Since the Arachnid stats system tracks users by ID, this will cause some problems. Rather than take the time to write something to try matching names to names and updating all the user records with their new IDs, I'm just going to start with a fresh, empty history database. I just don't have time right now to do anything else.

It'll take a couple of days to really start getting a decent history going again. Sorry guys!

For all you do, and the price you charge, you won't hear ME complaining!! :D

Dyyryath,

This definitely was completely out of your control. Don't worry about it, your stats rock! Just start them again from scratch and let's see where we go from here.

I don't think you would be able to match them up again anyway, there are a huge number of duplicates. I find it odd that Howard's backup didn't save the unique id's, but then again I think in terms of SQL server and backups, I don't know what method Howard is using to back up or store his data.

Keep up the great work Dyyryath!

Ni! :p

Maybe you could keep a copy of your data before the server crash. It looks like the restore from tape has erased several hours worth of stats updates.

Or maybe Howard already has a plan to recover that data another way.

I'm just guessing here, but Howard's probably using an auto-incrementing field to generate unique IDs. I've noticed that the farther along you get in alphabetical order, the farther off the user id's seem to get from their original numbers.

At any rate, it's not a HUGE deal. I just thought I'd pass along to everyone where the history went. ;)

I am saving the old data (I've archived the entire database in it's current state) and sometime in the future when I get a little free time, I'll write a script to go back through and re-integrate all the old history back into the system. Until then though, we're starting from scratch. :D

I ran the first update on the new database a few minutes ago. The stats will be back online at 02:00:00am EST after two complete updates.

I wondered how with 6 machines each producing 150k-180k/day I only produced 150k since the changeover.

oh well.. this has been the most chaotic changeover we've experienced.. *grin* ;)

Thanks to Bryan and Dyyryath for the effort they put into the project the last few days..

That is correct. Silly me, I thought I didn't need to back it up because it would re-create them when I re-insert them in the new database. Of course, it didn't insert them in the same ORDER as they were originally, hence the scrambling. Shows what I know about databases  Anyways, now I know better so I will be backing up UID along with the rest of the user info from now on..

What happens to the updates made between the time the project server was back online and 2:00 AM est? Did we lose "credit" for those uploads?
