Greets,
Finally back online. Just moved from Indianapolis to Settle and new job.
Have to get the farm (and everything else shipped out), but have Celeron laptop crunching pathetically so at least I'll be able to chip in.

I hope your new job is great!
What do you do with your 800 MHz G3? RC5 or OGR? In RC5 I would believe that advantage, but at OGR? If yes: wow!
And what will you crunch at distributed.net? OGR or RC5?

Can you give me some Nodes per second numbers of your celeron and your 800 MHz G3? Sounds interesting :D
I'm not so much into Mac and Apple and so on... how old is that G3 800 MHz?
Chinasaur
11-28-2004, 02:16 PM
The G3 is a Blue & White (B&W) with an 800Mhz upgrade card. Box came out in 1999 I think. Has 1GB RAM.
G3 does ~13M nodes per second.
2.4Ghz Celeron does ~8M nodes per second.
The OS X codes is highly optimized for PPC processors which is why it gets such high marks.
I never expected this Celeron chip to get so badly beat by an 800Mhz chip. I only bought this laptop because it was cheap..not as a cruncher. I hd to fly out for this job and had to leave the farm at home till I can ge it shipped.
I get ~22M on my 933 G4 (Altivec enabled). I can't even guess what you would get with a bottom of the line G5 iMac at 1.6Ghz :D~ I think Death said he got 30M+ on his G5.

I'm doing ~22.9G/s max with my 933Mhz G4. I'm kind of hoping that I will be doing above ~60G/s with the dual.
For $800 gives me as much cpu power as a Dual G5 2.0.

My math says something different:
My temp output of about 5,000 GNodes and your (fulltime?) output of about 5,000 GNodes are added up about 10,000 GNodes.
FoBoT is on average of 20,000 GNodes per day
So we don't have even the half of FoBoTs output

My boxen will be offline from 9/2 to 9/9 or /10 due to vacation. I would leave it running but I rent a 79 year old house and I'm afraid of leaving electrical "stuff" on while away.
Riding motorcycle down to Bryce and Zion National Parks with Printman9 and staying at cygnussphere's in Idaho on the way down and back :D Might come home via Devils Tower if we have enough time and feel strong.

A good 35,454 GNodes sure gets noticed.
So, bringing more to the party?
My systems have been busy and or offline. I am almost done with relocating them but I have a lot off real work that needs to be run on them. My output will vary for the next month depending on my work schedule. After that I should have all my systems back online and craking some big numbers. I've got about 25-35 systems offline right now. Hopefully I'll get more money to buy more systems this month.

Maybe. :p
I'm running about 85% right now. I fired up a few systems at home to give me a temp boost. I still have another 20 systems that aren't on. But as soon as we get some issues worked out I will have to shut most of the systems down till the end of the month while we play catch up on our real work production.

It happens from time to time. They'll get it right after a day or two.
For the longest running distributed projects on the net..Dnet has a pretty good track record.

Right out from the Cow's mouth:
http://n0cgi.distributed.net/cgi/dnet-finger.cgi?user=bovine
Although the stats website is still accessible, they are currently not
being updated because we are currently investigating some possible
hardware issues that were noticed after a recent power failure.
Hopefully once we are confident about the status of the box, we will
resume stats updates again. Don't worry, since no data loss is
expected. :)
So, nothing to worry about.

Decibels .plans (http://n0cgi.distributed.net/cgi/dnet-finger.cgi?user=decibel) say:
:: 11-Nov-2005 10:50 CST (Friday) ::
More drive issues with fritz, so stats are off for right now...

.plans: (http://n0cgi.distributed.net/cgi/dnet-finger.cgi?user=fiddles)
:: 13-Nov-2005 12:33 CST (Sunday) ::
fritz (statsbox) is currently offline due to issues with the drive controller.
We're working to bring it back up as soon as possible, but in the mean time,
we're keeping stats offline while we make sure the hardware is ok.
All work is still being counted. The stats-site will catch-up once we bring it
online again.
Stay tuned for further updates!

They would only need to bring it back to the datacenter...
And as soon as it is back online I know how many OGR stubs I've crunched that long time :D
Another thing that burns me:
Why is distributed.net OGR and distributed.net RC5 splitted into two subforums here at free-dc.org?
Why can't we merge this two forums (i.e. for stats thingys like this) and create two sub-sub-forums for each project like it is in the BOINC area?
Would that be an idea? Or am I the only one who likes this  ?
Sounds ok to me, wait a day or so, to see if there is any other reaction, otherwise I'll do that.

What I don't want is to merge all posts into one distributed.net forum.
What I want is a structure like this:
distributed.net "top"-forum for issues concerning both projects (stats, new clients, ...)
- OGR "sub"-forum only for OGR crunching
- RC5 "sub"-forum only for RC5 crunching
Just like the BOINC forum in here, with all its subforums for each project.
You know what I mean? but I think I've already said that :D

I'm going all out at the moment on OGR. I have an AMD64 3700 (@2.5GHz), XP2400, Athlon 1GHz, iMac DV400, P2 233 (most of these are only working hours or part time). I'm hopefully going to be upgrading the P2 233 to an ASUS CUR-DLS with dual 933's or 1GHz's some time in the near future.

I have only part time machines too...
Looks like we were :train: by the end of that week :(

Nice 28 Tnode dump Nitrousine!
My dually is on the way to me. Hopefully I'll have it up and running by the weekend and I'll be able to keep up with CaptainMooseInc's daily rate. :Pokes:

My daily rate? Am I doing that much? Another machine on your part and I'll be 6 fix under you.

Well, you seem to do about an extra 1T on me each day.
My AMD64 3700 only does about 1.5T/day part time but hopefully my dual 933 rig will do something around that if it is running full time.

the-mk, I haven't seen any numbers but they seem to own everything else on other projects. Definitely interested to know for sure.
Got my dually up and running:
[Aug 16 19:23:52 UTC] OGR-P2 #b: Saved 25/8-5-19-2-23-27 (4.10 Gnodes done)
                      0.00:03:21.25 - [12,433,784 nodes/s]
[Aug 16 19:23:52 UTC] OGR-P2 #a: Saved 25/8-5-19-2-20-31 (88.21 Gnodes done)
                      0.00:03:21.30 - [12,542,739 nodes/s]
So that's another ~25 Mnodes/sec FULL TIME for me! :D

alpha, that sounds great!
Our threat is only about 150,000 GNodes away there is not much we could do to avoid this with our "small" machines
alpha

Yeah it looks like we're doomed. We'll just have to keep chuggin' and hope that our opponents drop in production, or we get some kind of miracle boost!

Guys,
I think I won't run SOB instead I will go for OGR but only next week/still have to decide.

Completely forgot about that thread --^!
em99010pepe, it would be great if you could join us so that we at least put up a fight before being overtaken. How many GHz would you be able to bring to the party?

alpha,
I could bring one AMD 64 3000+ and one 2200+. I can only add them next week not now, sorry.

alpha, thanks, I know that thread, but this one is about CoreDuo, which are the mobile Intel CPUs.
The one I meant was Core 2 Duo, which Intel intruduced some weeks ago.
I don't know if they are comparable...
em99010pepe, its great that you join us in OGR
I need to have a look if I can bring some firepower through the weekend, but will be only temporary for that weekend: 11 intel pentium D's and 8 intel pentium 4, which should outproduce them over the weekend I hope. That should be some kind of one time "burn in"-test for our new Dell workstation (I'm glad, no mobile ones :D ) but I'm sad that I can't bring them in fulltime :(

Oops, I didn't realise that there was such a thing as both CoreDuo and Core 2 Duo - I'm behind the times!
Would be great if you could get all those machines running the-mk, even if only for the weekend. Saturdays are usually my top producing day and I'll go all out this weekend to try and keep our current position.

Core2Duo can be inserted into the intel iMac, the MacBookPro and the Mini.
Don't know what the OGR difference is between them.
I'll get some time in on OGR over the weekend since it's cooler now.

Now it is official: we've lost or #25 spot :(
It will take some time to get it back...
But hey: it seems that another crunchers is back: Beyond
alpha
08-20-2006, 05:15 AM
Yeah whilst it is disappointing to lose #25 we really have ramped up a bit the past few days with 9 active participants yesterday as opposed to 3-6. However, out of 55 participants we are still only at ~1/5th production!
Our rate for yesterday was just over a quarter of BOFH@Chalmers' rate (27T compared to 100T) so we still need plenty more help if we intend to claim our place back. Unfortunately most of the teams below us are still outproducing us daily by a fairly large margin.
rus6 and Bok are soon to be :stomp:'d, so maybe that will be an incentive to come back? :)

I've bumped my deployment up to 8 machines now, will try to revive a couple of the dead A_64's this week.
Just noticed the OGR 25 stubs are almost as small as the OGR 24 stubs were sometime ago.

Nice output Beyond! No chance of me catching up to you for now. :)
We did much better yesterday, producing over 37T. BOFH@Chalmers did almost 135T, upping their game even more. Our new rivals "Terminal & BBS Liane & Others RC5 Team" did 96T yesterday.
We must continue to push!
I might see if I can get away with leaving my work computer on overnight, but it will only be temporarily because I am leaving in two weeks time.

We did around 16T yesterday with teams on either side of us doing well over 100T.
Where did you go, CaptainMooseInc?
Anyone know who Kitcat is on the pproxy stats? Clearly they aren't on the Free-DC team and it would be nice to have them. :)

I'm going to try and flush 200,000 Gnodes daily. I'll build up to that gradually.
Perhaps we can take back 25th place!
