Well, I've done it now. Broke my Mandrake installation, so thought I'd try out Gentoo.
Built it from scratch (stage 1), and everything went fine. Built a Gentoo sources kernel,
still fine. Pull the CD, reboot that sucka---------No ethernet :mad: Check everything, rebuild kernel, curse a little, pray a lot------- no help:swear:
From what I've gathered from their forums, this seems to happen fairly often. Various solutions have been put forward, but none of them seem to help. This isn't an off -the-wall box; just a little Intel 900 MHz processor and a plain old 3Com ethernet card.
Anybody played with this system and run into this? More importantly, how did you fix it??? I've got two days invested so far, I figure one more and then I'll just rebuild Mandrake? Thanks for any input.
