It is possibly bad luck but it appears something you uploaded didn't get processed properly. Please bear with us as this is all brand new stuff and we haven't tested with a 'full load' of users so to speak until now. I believe we still need a bit of tweaking on our server side here.

To get going quickly again, the easiest thing to do, Im afraid, is indeed to delete filelist.txt (and optionally the filenames listed in it) and start again.

We will try to get this sorted out ASAP. Thanks.

Is this what you are seeing ?
FATAL ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 2996} Unable to find file 8fXXXXXX_0_8fXXXXXX_protein_42_0000037.val;
cannot continue - replace file and start again, or manually delete filelist.txt

This has happened to my about 4 times now on different platforms/machines. I though it was just me.

nope.. just the message "previous generation missing"
then it won't upload but coninue to fold on...

Don't know if it matters, and it probably doesn't help any, but these are not the same file name:

8fXXXXXX_0_8fXXXXXX_protein_127_0000009.val
8fXXXXXX_0_8fXXXXXX_protein_127_0000009_min.val

Yup I read that wrong. The question is where are these files going ?
I noticed the first 2 files listed in filelist.txt are never there.

Please post the flags you are using in your foldit(.bat) file with any error messages like this. It will help us immensely to figure out whats wrong.

Some Members from OCworkbench are getting this..it happens when the Server goes offine or they lose their connection and they have to buffer the results. When they go to upload again they get the Gen missing error and they have to delete everything to restart :(

hmm...looking through my error log for the last few server down times I have the following groups of statements (they've only been appearing since Thursday):

ERROR: [010.003] {taskapi.c, line 1217} [ReadServerResponse] Timeout waiting for response, got 0 chars.
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4127} Error during upload: NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER - WILL TRY AGAIN LATER
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4050} Warning during upload: STATUS 910 MISSING PREVIOUS OR ILLEGAL GENERATION

but it still let's me upload once on-line (well, except for once)

Question: if you get an error message like pfb got above, but afterwards it uploads normally, is all future work sent in from that client ignored? (at least until the next set of generations) :confused:

Brian the Fist

If you are still getting points for your uploads and no error messages, then the work is being accepted. Anyways if it occurs mostly when the server is down thats a good clue for us and explains why we can't reproduce it perhaps. Well try and figure it out. Thanks.

..but different cause;
had just shifted to Quiet mode [ in parameter list];

went to upload; didnt see anything happening.. wasnt swift enough to realize that it was probly Quiet mode being quiet !!

closed the window, rather than Q'ing the window;

when I tried to resume uploading with the command line prompts visible, got this...

.

ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 3951} Cannot find structure from previous generation .\7wm4gh74_0_7wm4gh74_protein_161_0000003_min.val; find it manually or delete filelist.txt to continue
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4127} Error during upload: Previous generation missing

have bit the bullet, back to generation 0-- which really ticked me off for a few minutes !! frankly...

I just got a similar problem.

Used client on my notebook (had smoothly run for about a day, but was offline). When I got home, I connected it to the internet, and wanted to upload (while being "quite"). To do so, I stopped the client and started it again (being non-quiet). An error message was written: "Cannot find structure from previous generation". After a restart, the client told me I hade changed something in the filelist.txt and that I have to delete it (it used other words, sorry I don't remember them).

~1 day of P4 power got lost :(

Using text client on WinXP with "-rt" as the only switch.

I just wanted to add that while beta testing the "Lost generation" happen twice to me... Both times the server was not accessible...

but it still let's me upload once on-line (well, except for once) I'm seeing the same thing, on both of my machines. Is the "STATUS 910" warning necessarily causing work to be lost? Because I see that ever since I started seeing this (some time late last night), I haven't gotten nearly as much credit as I used to, although I do get some (almost like I only have the P3-800 online, even though both actually are getting this error/warning).

Anyway, the error.log seems to go something like this (can I take this opportunity to ask for a timestamp on individual messages in error.log? the timestamp written when it gets opened is nice, but putting the time -- not necessarily time and date -- on each individual message would make it easier to figure out which message(s) match which generation(s)):

"Timeout waiting for response"
NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER
<next generation>
"Timeout waiting for response"
NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER
<next generation, I think>
"Timeout waiting for response"
NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER
<I think this next one is the same gen, but don't know for sure>
STATUS 910 MISSING PREVIOUS OR ILLEGAL GENERATION

Then the last three messages repeat, presumably until I can get a connection to your server again (though I haven't been able to do that).

I do not like getting "could not connect to server" when the Server is definately up as is my connection. This could be the problem..too many trying to upload and some timing out and thus getting the errors ?

Received the error on all boxen tonight (12). Gen's started queue up.

It's as if the server didn't process a particular upload so none of the following attempts are any good, because it thinks you are processing out of sequence.

Yesterday someone from our team experienced an issue with uploading the DF data set. The work was not transferred due to server down error. He continued to fold offline for an additional 50 generations and then encountered this error when trying to upload:

ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 3951} Cannot find structure from previous generation .\kwebim1v_0_kwebim1v_protein_48_0000022_min.val; find it manually or delete filelist.txt to continue
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4127} Error during upload: Previous generation missing

Are these 50 generations of work now lost? I will ask him about the flags he used while encountering this problem.

Michael.

these messsages:
earlier, it appeared that several generations were uploaded [ a fewer number remained buffered ]..

the only thing that's changed, in weeks: changed -qf to -qt;

[ gonna let df sit and stew, at least on this machine-- dont have time to monitor the upload process extensively right now]

The problem looks a bit systemic, all of my machines seem to have started doing it, now they all have lot's off generations buffered.

ERROR: [010.003] {taskapi.c, line 1217} [ReadServerResponse] Timeout waiting for response, got 0 chars.
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4127} Error during upload: NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER - WILL TRY AGAIN LATER
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4127} Error during upload: NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER - WILL TRY AGAIN LATER
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4050} Warning during upload: STATUS 910 MISSING PREVIOUS OR ILLEGAL GENERATION

But then strangely enough, a couple of generations later I just get this message:

ERROR: [010.003] {taskapi.c, line 1217} [ReadServerResponse] Timeout waiting for response, got 0 chars.
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4127} Error during upload: NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER - WILL TRY AGAIN LATER
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4127} Error during upload: NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER - WILL TRY AGAIN LATER

So it is no longer complaining about the missing generation. One of my other clients also now complains about a missing generation:

ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4050} Warning during upload: STATUS 910 MISSING PREVIOUS OR ILLEGAL GENERATION

ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4127} Error during upload: NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER - WILL TRY AGAIN LATER

Looking at my filelist.txt file I do have 2 files missing from my directory which are:

.\fold_1_XXX_31_XXX_protein_46.log.bz2
.\XXX_1_XXX_protein_46_0000032.val

So the filelist.txt wants the generation 46 files above which are missing but in my directory I still do have this one:
XXX_1_XXX_protein_46_0000032_min.val.bz2

Same thing with my other client I mentioned above, it is missing one .log.bz2 file and one .val file but there is a _min.val.bz2 file still in the directory.

My clients have been running the whole time without crashing or being stopped. Both are running as services with this options in service.cfg:
useram=1
progress=1

Now one of my own systems has the same problem at generation 97:

The flags I used were: -qt -rt
According to my team mates the problem also occurred with: -rT -qT -iT -g 10

or: -f -n -rt

Is there a possibility for manual upload after this incident?

Again, after such excessive betatesting, these problems (along with a number of other things concerning RMSD quality and "laxness mode") are barely acceptable.

inside the filelist.txt

some filenames has .\ infront but others don :confused:

I have exactly the same problems as above. time stamps on ALL entries in the error.log would be a great help. Also logs of sucsessful uploads is needed.:help: :help: :swear: :moon: :swear: :help: :help:

Good ideas - timestamps and successful upload messages in the log. I second both of those. I have no idea if any of my machines are uploading successfully or not - they don't appear to be....

So I have a bit of an update. It seems that after every generation is complete, I get the status 910 error, then I get the:

ERROR: [010.003] {taskapi.c, line 1217} [ReadServerResponse] Timeout waiting for response, got 0 chars.
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4127} Error during upload: NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER - WILL TRY AGAIN LATER

Well after that happens, the generation that it was complaining about, the final remaining _min.val.bz2 file gets deleted and then the generation above that becomes out of sync.

So right now I just completed generation 55. It was complaining about generation 49 where the log.bz2 and .val files were missing but the _min.val.bz2 was still in the directory. Once gen 55 finished, the 49_min.val.bz2 was deleted and the 50.log.bz2 and 50.val files were also deleted (but an entry for them is still listed in filelist.txt). So now my filelist.txt is still out of syn. The client reported that it could not upload the structs but it seemed to remove the last files in filelist.txt anyway.

The last time I reported above I had gen 46 files, and now it has slowly eaten up to gen 50. Something is definitely going wrong here.

I have the same problems on my systems, there are 150 gens buffered.
Just hope these don't go down the crapper when this gets fixed.
Some rebuild/recovery instructions would be great.
Also PLEASE put date/time stamp with the error messages, what good is a 20kb error log with no clue when things happened?

Ok, it is clear that something along the way here is getting more load than it can handle. Let us take a look into it some more. There is no point posting the same message over and over again by different people, we get the message that its broken.. :bonk:

ok..;)

But in the while, there is or there will be a way to upload generations which gave back the upload errors?

we're not trying to hammer you;
we're trying to help flesh out the problem;

at least once, I did something that could cause data or files to be misplaced or caught in limbo.. causing me to lose 130 + generations' worth of progress..

since then, on that machine, starting over- things were going smoothly-- for a while..

my concern - right now- is if that missing generation message is real and will foul me up again--- dont think I could take it twice in several days ...:( :(

You asked for the flag settings, you got them. :D
