First off, a hello to you all.
I'm new to folding and though I thought I had it all I figured out, now I'm not so sure...
I've got two fairly fast PCs, and the folding screensaver running on both of them. Am I wasting my team even bothering to run these? Do they make a real contribution?

Wasted? No- every contribution counts. You will find that most people will opt for the text-based clients over the screensaver though- drawing the "pretty pictures" costs cycles that could be used for running the calculations--- plus the screensaver only runs when you aren't using the computer, while a text client runs all the time, only using the cycles that you aren't using for something else.

Seismik - in under a week, my AXP 1800+ system running the Beta Client finished 250 generations and got scores less than the lowest score that all 2000-3000 active folders got in 10 billion folds. And I may not have even made the top 10 chart for the Beta client.. *grin*
So while your number of folds may look pitiful in comparison to the Phase I number of folds.. you're getting tremendously better low angstrom scores. Keep at it.. and you may be the one that finds the lowest score.

I bumped my mouse when it was calculating the trajectory at the end of a generation so it happily canceled the operation. Next time the SS activated I received an error message about some corrupted file I should fix. How should I know how to fix it? I had to delete my work & filelist to get running again. I would think this is rather likely to happen to others.

This should not occur. If it happens again, please write down the error message for us and we can tell you what is wrong, or if it is a bug we can fix it - if you want, back up your directory just before the end of a generation and then reproduce what you did before, move the mouse at the same time.
Then once you've got the error message, restore the backup you made so you don't have to start over.
thanks

Howard, this SS error is very repeatable.
