O.K. - so I bought an Enermax EG365P-VE FC, the kind that is supposed to be fan controlled by the mobo. It is a good PSU, except for two things - a low 5+v rail (4.83v when I crank the OC) and the noise. It is supposed to be quiet, but its fans are the loudest in my system.

I am planning on getting an Antec PP412X to replace it, primarily for the 5+V stability, but I got to thinking, if it is loud as well, could I replace the fan that comes with it with a Panaflo or similar?

Anyone tried that? How well does it work? Any problems I need to look out for?

Not knowing the answer to your specific question.
You can use a 400 watt, or even a 300 watt Antec to run an AMD.

I have had success with one 1.2/266 AMD running at 1.6GHz, and other 1.2/266 AMD at 1.4GHz, with no problems on an IDE rig.

I even had a 465 watt Enermax that only put out 4.7v on the 5v rail. Might work ok for an Intel box, but not on an AMD Tbird rig.

This amdmb.com thread outlines what you can with power supplies that have this tweak. I'd recommend getting a PS that has voltages within allowables ..ie .25% either way.

If you attempt this...

YOU CAN SEVERLY INJURE YOURSELF AND POSSIBLY KILL YOURSELF!!!!

DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

I'D ADVISE YOU NOT TO DO IT.
