I am a cnc machinist with the largest vertical machining center in South Dakota

and I have been playing with some engraving software called DeskEngrave, now it is free to the public and if you have access to a cnc machine that uses G and M codes you are in the engraving business

it lets you adjust size, font (about thirty I think), and even engrave on an arc

now I have been looking for some softeware that will take a .dxf file from cad and put it in G and M code for me. If I could find some i was thinking of doing some mods and engraving for free-dc as a little contribution back to the team.

IB, Dyyryath and the others responsible for free-dc you let me know if there is something I can do for you individually and we will talk.

but as for the whole team, I can do plexi-glass and aluminum and just about anything you can think of.

but at the moment I am limited to text and variations of geo-metric shapes until I get something that will go from cad to G and M.

if anyone can help I would love to work this out and maybe some trades for work could be done, I dont know

but help me out here, if anyone knows where to look or where I can get some inexpensive software let me know please

thank you for your support

Is this the sort of thing you're looking for?

close but what I need is translator software that will take autocad .dxf files and translate them into g & M code format for use in a cnc machine

my mill uses a fanuc 18i m controller with extended edit and extended memory

but It has to translate .dxf to G and M code specifically

How about Mastercam v9.0?

I do engraving on just about every mold I build and it works great. Can do on arcs, projected onto organic shapes, etc. Let me know if you are interested. Has all the translators you need .iges, .step, ascii, .dxf, parasolid, .stl, .vda, ProE, and all autocad.

I would also be willing to do some custom work if anyone was interested. I have EDM capability here as well. Could do some pretty fancy stuff on motorcycle parts and such.

Well, with the way you are gaining, you could promise to close the gates after you passed through my small hydra west farm so the chickens wouldn't get out. I am sure a CD could find its way to your mailbox. I would also be more than happy to help with any questions you may have with the software. It can be pretty complicated at times.

Deal??

Ah, this all sounds quite promising! It's good to see Free-DC'ers helping each other out.

Of course, I'll probably take one or both of you up on those offers for work. I'm putting together a new bike over the winter for Daytona next year...

Well, I have always admired Britten for what he did at Daytona. It is probably about time someone else went down and shook things up a bit.

Heh, I'm afraid I don't have the time or money to do what Britten did. In fact, this is just a really modified 2003 R1 for showing off on. ;)
