I do not want to lose the points I got from this cleient. I am on the XP 2600 and if I delete the file list I will lose those points!

That's it! I am through with df until you guys get this sh*t fixed! All these hours just to get through generation "0" and now this! What a waste of time when I could have been running Seti.

When you get the final fixed non-.NET client (released at approx 2PM EST) you will need to erase filelist.txt and start again. That error message is telling you the the .val file is corrupt, which it is. That was the whole problem with that binary in the first place. The binary now produces proper output as it is built with the old compiler. I'm afraid the only way to continue is to start gen. 0 over again, sorry.

Howard - I get this error with a version I just (3 hours ago) downloaded from the homepage. So IMHO simply restarting with this client will result in the same error again.

I guess you meant restarting with the "fixed" version. I'll try it as soon as it's out ...

Jammy

Sorry Howard, but FORGET IT! I spent to much time running the very first updated version for over 24 hours on generation "0" to have to lose all of that work on three boxes! I will just find another DC project to run, like my Seti.

Jammy

BTW >>> I already downloaded that "so-called" fix this morning at around 11 a.m. Pacific and all it did was speed up the impending disaster!

I am no guinea pig and this is NOT supposed to be a beta program!

Ok Howard . . .I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, and I completely deleted my df folder and started out ALL OVER AGAIN!

I downloaded the client from the webpage and installed it. I then fired df up once again (I did this on all three of my boxes! There was NOTHING of my old df files left on any of my computers.

I just finished generation "0" and what do I get?:

[NULL_Caption] FATAL ERROR: [000.000] File xlpzinlc_0_protein_0001125.val is c
orrupt; cannot continue - replace file and start again, or manually delete filel
ist.txt

and from my error.txt file:

========================[ Jul 23, 2003 6:12 PM ]========================
ERROR: [003.001] {extaaseq.c, line 991} Unable to fetch Biostruc xlpzinlc_0_protein_0001125.val

OK . . .so what is wrong with the client? I really do not have the time or patience to deal with a shaky client such as this!

What is the file size and date of the foldtrajlite.exe file in your directories?

Jammy
07-23-2003, 10:46 PM
2.9 megabytes. But look rsbriggs . . .as I said above, I have spent far too much time on a client that is shaky and I would rather just move on and back to a more stable DC project.

Cache? From whose cache?

Internet Explorer's cache.... It has this nasty habit of helping you with file downloads - if it finds a copy of what you are trying to download in the download cache, it sometimes just uses it, rather than downloading a new copy - and says "download complete"...

This is what properties shows for my working copy of the client:
2.88 MB (3,026,944 bytes). Best to do a clean install.....

And I understand about the aggravation - I nearly moved on to a different project myself after wasting most of today downloading and installing stuff, and flat-lining the stats for 10 machines all day.

Something nice and stable like Seventeen or Bust was starting to look pretty good....

OK . . .I changed to my Phoenix browser instead of Internet Explorer. Phoenix has never downloaded the df client before, and I still downloaded and ended up with a foldtrajlite.exe file size of 2.88!

Can't Howard just put the "correct" client (all of the download files in fact) in a completely different location to ensure that we can all download the new and correct client?

Too many of us have been unable to do any work since we can't run the "correct" client! That is, unless Howard wants it this way, i.e. does Howard like to have all of this confusion going on? I myself have gotten quite p*ssed off with this whole program. I have never had problems such as these!

2.88 megs is the same file size that I was downloading yesterday only to have it start screwing up after finishing generation "0"!

Look PinHead . . .I do not have the time to keep running the client only to keep receiving errors after generation "0" has completed! I already have started to turn off one of my boxes at night because I do not have a viable client to run.

Then why does Howard say that the executable should be 3,026,944 bytes? This is more than 2.88 mgs.

I'm in doubt Howard corrected the "full" client zip yet. I think he intended everybody to download the client and then to download the "exe-update" (info can be found in thread http://free-dc.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3675).

What Jammy and I were trying was to download the zipfile of the client (including all files).

As I've said before, I downloaded the client for the 2nd protein of the 2nd phase yesterday for the first time, and it didn't work then. So, if there's a problem (and obviously there is one), it is still in the client (at least in the zipfile to download).

[when I write "is", I mean the time around yesterday early afternoon US time; I haven't tried it out since then. On the download-page the same time is still mentioned (july 22)]

It would be strange Howard corrected the bug and users are still able to download the buggy version ... but ...

I downloaded the full Client yesterday at 2:40 EST and put it on all my boxes. They are all running fine.
The way I do it is: Delete all previous Client files, run RegClean, reboot, run RegClean, reinstall Client, reinstall GUI.

PinHead

Because the file is 3,026,944 bytes in size.

A MB is 1,048,576 bytes not 1,000,000

So windows shows it as 2.88MB.
The math shows it as 2.88671875 MB.

The full client is currently updated and caries the 1:43 time stamp.

The update foldtrajlite.exe zip file carries the 1:09 time stamp.

PinHead

Here is just the foldtrajlite.exe zip for reference.

Jammy

To tell you the truth wirthi . . .I am so hesitant about trying to run the client again! I did try downloading the client again this morning with my Phoenix browser (I am on my XP 2600 now) and the foldtrajlite.exe in the unzipped file has a date of 7/23/03 and 1:43 p.m. as its time. The download "does" still say July 22nd and that is very misleading!

I am still hesitant because I do not want to get burned yet "One more time!". I have not even turned on my T-Bird because it has no viable client to run and I will not run Seti on it (which I am currently running on my XP 1900 and XP 2600) because it is so much slower, lol.

I did that (regclean and reboot) and reinstalled the client from the "download" page and am trying it out on the T-Bird first before I try for the third and last time on the XP 1900 and XP 2600.

Thanks!
