You might have run into the dread "missing previous generation error" that I'm always treated to whenever I TRY to upload an offline batch.... Here's wishing you the best of luck luck recovering the million or so points from those WU's that should be there. :scared:

Yeah, if that were consistent, IB and PCZ would both be thinking about treadmarks...

unfortunetly, due to the nature of my network/the real "jobs" of those PC's, i cannot do this consistently :|punch|:

but it is fun a few times a year when we get the long weekends :harhar:

the good news is my scripting skillz have improved and changed this from an extremely manual/labor intensive process into a much simpler semi-automated task

Timed out talking to the Server after only 630 uploaded :( This is what I've been complaining to Howard about, so far to no avail. We've just simply got too much net traffic with these fast proteins. We've got full-time jobs, clearing out overflowing error.log files. I really believe he's fixed up his servers about as well as can be expected, but with a couple thousand crunchers with multiple machines, all phoning home every few minutes... :dunno:

At least one way would be for the client to limit itself to some minimum time between uploads. If anyone can think another, lets try to sell these ideas. I think we're heading for some major probs, well, look at the last update!!

IronBits

:bang: More timeouts talking to the server after uploading about 10 more, so I put it back on auto pilot... I assume they will all get there eventually.
I don't know what Howard can do about the limited bandwidth situation when we hit these fast proteins... for sure it's going to limit over all participation in this project.

IronBits,

I think you should post NOW to Howard about this in the main DF forum. Everybody has been hit by the upload problem and it hasn't gone away. And thinking it will get done during the grace period is probably incorrect as most people will be dumping then.

Worst case you should zip and file those strucs as a backup in case they don't get uploaded to the server in time.

NO way should you be penalized because DF's servers can't handle the load. If you zip and let Howard download and let HIM try to upload them maybe he'll understand the pain some people go through....like that will ever happen

I'd agree about the backup before you try any more uploading. I'm always too dumb to think of that until it's gone wrong.....

IronBits

I may have just lost it all... more later - did post in the official form

Yup, all gone! Invalid file in list or something
Won't take the -purgeuploadlist 1 command line either.
I'm afraid it's fubar, and I'm in no mood to fight it any longer after 2 hours.

feck it

Thats about a million points down the drain, it would annoy me to :bang:

I think that it would be better if the client only uploaded results at the end of each
250 generations.
This would be similar to how F@H works, a fast machine might only upload once or twice a day instead of 100's of times.

Sorry to hear it :(
FoBot may have the knack of doing big dumps, but I have the same result as you any time I try to do large uploads ( > 100 gens ).

Suggestion: next time, stop the client, and make yourself a copy of the entire flipping directory before trying to upload. I certainly will if I'm ever in that situation again.

ftp uploading the .zip file to my server took ages, but now it's running under XP on MY box, where everything always works fine. ;) :D

making a backup is a GOOD idea

over the past two days, i have dumped , um, i dunno , over a hundred clients/installs

only one ,that i noticed borked, an it appeared to be a hickup with the DSL line, so i lightened up on that line, i wish i had an answer

IronBits

FoBoT - you have put out incredible numbers that I can only dream of.
:notworthy
When you make it up here, I'm not cleaning house...
You'll have to put up with PCZ's dirty smelly socks he leaves laying all over the place like I do. ;) :jester:

The 'backup' zip file I created then deleted, because I thought I missed a few dozen wus, I went back and recovered it from the recycle bin.
Figured it had to be better than nothing, which is what I HAD at the time.
Turned out it saved my bacon... :|party|: At least I got most of em :)
