I use the optimized Linux clients from - http://www.msu.edu/user/bercikda/eccp.html for Linux. I took that code and re-compiled for Be so I'm still using that same source.

Other than that...I'm not sure. I don't touch two of my boxes ever. Maybe you could increase the priority of your boxes ...maybe see if more cpu time gives you more DP's...

Another thought..if you have older slower chips...even if you have more (5.1Ghz) I wonder if I would still outproduce you? Like 5.1Ghz of 500mhz Celerons wouldn't produce as much as 4Ghz of modern Athlon? 66Mhz bus vs 100Mhz or 266Mhz? I don't know what your farm looks like so I'm just thinking out loud here.

6,12,18 and 24/00 hours EST (GMT -5)
they don't use Daylight saving time, so it's actually one hour "late".

Stat generation takes +- 20 minutes, so if you refresh them on 0:30,6:30, 12:30, 18:30 you'll be just fine (GMT time used)

Look at News at ECCp, about 30 K points was accidentaly lost (including ours!!).

Chris's recomendation is to copy dplist.log to dplist. and send everything again (duplicit points will be filtered out...)

Forgot to mention in my last post, I also have a 50MHz 486 working on ECCp but I guess it isn't really worth mentioning since it is hardly ever powered up and hasn't yet found a single DP :)

If you borg some machines (for example) and want to hide client (Win), use StatsAholics - it's little slower, but invisible. Users don't see it and don't tamper with it (like "What is that?" "I don't know, but I'll shut it down..." :swear: )


But if you want best speed, use above indicated ... happy crunching.

cygwin1.dll comes with the statsaholic clients, but you can grab it here http://bane.free-dc.org/downloads/eccp/cygwin1.zip

As long as it is in the same dir as the executable (or c:\$windir\system), it should have no problem.

The link I pasted (in previous post) and the statsaholic client(s) are actual replacement clients. i.e. they are independant executables and are not meant for use in conjunction with the official client, or any other application for that matter.

How often do the stats update? The write-ups don't say anything about it.

I'm not all that sure, but I think there are 58,000,000 possible DP. Therefore the project ends when that many DP have been submitted.. I think. So that would mean we're a little over half way?

It's estimated that it'll be after some +-58M DPs, but it could happen earlier or later...(worst case scenario is 100M)

There's probability of finding a solution on
"Project Stats" in ECCp section.

Problem (if it can be called problem) is, that algorithm used in ECCp is non-deterministic and therefore luck plays its part.

The worst part is that there's also a good chance that the solution has been found but not yet returned. For instance, the DPC are supposedly planning a "mega-flush" at the end of the month. If they've saved up enough points, there's a reasonably good probability that they've been sitting on the solution for several weeks without knowing.

Of course, we don't know how big a DPC "mega-flush" really is. I've wandered around their various (very well organized,btw) sites and seen "mega" applied to numbers from 2200 to 300,000.

It would be ironic if someone turned in the solution point _just_ before the DPC did their big play.

That's why it's not good to have too much stash tucked somewhere for massive dump - somebody else can find a solution and then you can stick those DPs up your ...(you know ...) Even Chris (coordinator) said that, but you know, Cows are just cows. :p

I think thats probably why too. Stats have become so much of a factor (and dont get me wrong, I love stats!) that people are willing to live with the possibility of having two matching DP (and the possibility of someone submitting a winning DP before you), and "winning" the project. Apologies in advance, it is early and I'm cranky, but those people are morons. Think about all the wasted CPU cycles on a (possibly) already complete project that could be put to use in some other project. Surely the whole idea of this is to complete the project as soon as possible. So why the HELL would you withhold all those DPs? To beat the largest flush on the stats of course! Pfft.

I've been trying to read the DPC forum to find out what's up with their Mega-Flush, but they all seem to post in this wierd code that I have a tough time breaking. I'm guessing it's soon though, because I see behavior fairly typical of them before a flush - feigned worry of a team ramping up or getting close to passing them. I just wonder if they do flush, if the ND servers are going to bog down. IIRC, when they did one of their bigger flushes before, they had to break it up over a couple days.

I'm not sure how the results validation->stats compilation works, but how about if the first point they submit and gets checked ends the contest, leaving them with 999,999 useless points that (perhaps) never show up in the stats.

I got an e-mail back from Chris with the explanation of how the validation works. From what he says, everything that gets submitted during the 6 hour interval (and is not filtered out) counts in the stats because there isn't a simple way to tell which points were submitted before and after the winning point.

So, it looks like we'll have to find it before they do.

Well, it's inevitable that we get passed by BeOS, but there are still some slower-producing teams ahead of us, so we could possibly regain #20. Or better. If the project doesn't end abruptly on July 1, or whenever DPC does their thing.

Free-DC is pretty sparse on all the projects, so it's slightly surprising we're ranked as high as we are across the board. That's not to say we wouldn't welcome some more crunchers...

So I put my new Dual XP1900 on ECCp just now. :D

After a couple/few days, I'll switch to the other Dual.

Then we will see if there is any difference in performance between the two boxen.
Both use
Tyan S2460 Motherboard,
Allied 400 watt PS,
2 - XP1900 AMD processors.
One is SCSI with 1 stick of 256mb Crucial ECC Reg. PC2100 DDR.
One is EIDE with 1 stick of 256mb Kingston Value ram PC2100 DDR.
Both systems are dedicated crunchers running Mandrake 8.2.
Both are on the boxes they came in, out on a table like the below picture.
