Oh, yeah, Cray was a giant in the field. There are still several Cray YMPs in use by the Navy, in classified "Oceanographic research". For that, you can read "remote sensors", mainly under-sea listening devices. The computers filter out the "noise" of whales and fish, and storms, so that the "data" of the sounds of ships, and especially submarines, can be acquired, classified, and tracked.<br><br>Interesting <a href="http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=12050"> READ</a><br>

It's a good measure of someone when their name becomes synonomous with something.

As in, ask people of a certain age what they want for a computer, and they will tell you "a Cray".
