Im running windows 2000 professional.

It seems that DF is not getting all the time it could because of Csrss.exe.

From what I understand, Csrss is a server/client thread for the OS. Any ideas why its taking so much time? It takes about 30% of time normaly used by DF (for every 10 hours DF does, Csrss.exe uses 3 hours)

That means DF is usually only running at 90-94%, and sometimes down to 85%.

Any ideas. Its really hurting my production.

I don't know what it does, but I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be using that kind of time-- I just had a look at my W2K pro box, and csrss has used ~9 seconds in a little over 8 hrs....
:dunno:

If you do a search on this forum there a few discussions about CSRSS and DF - basically, any NT (or greater system) use CSRSS to 'draw' the ASCII characters in command windows and the best way to remove it's overhead with DF is either to run quiet or as a service to remove the need to draw the ASCII 'art'...

If you aren't running 'noisy' then it's something else causing CSRSS to hog the resources...

as a srvice with

service=1
useram=1
connect=0
priority=0

In the foldit.bat file check to see you are running with the -qt switch as pfb suggests. As you have Win2k i would definitely go for the servie option set to auto.

Have a gander at the readme.txt file that comes with the client.

Hmm...

Im on a modem...will that affect me if I run it as service? Will I have to manually stop the service to dump each night?

Im running it 'noisy' but hidden by dfgui. I'll run it 'quiet' and see if that helps (im uploading right now)

Thanks!

You won't have to stop the service-- when you go to upload thru dfGUI, it will pause it for you.

I'll install as service then, makes life easier.

The quiet mode fixed it as well, worked beautifully. :)

csrss.exe at very high cpu usage is a good indication of a virus/backdoor to.
Re-boots sometimes help, but you should check your computer thoroughly...
Of course, if you were not running your DF client with -qt, then ignore the above ;)
