1. open the client in the GUI.
2. Turn off all animations, including the one that says "Launch main window on startup"
3. close the client
4. Drill down to where the client is installed and open D2OL.lax in a text editor
5. Edit the following lines as shown:

# leave blank for no output, "console" to send to a console window,
# and any path to a file to save to the file
lax.stderr.redirect=console
# LAX.STDIN.REDIRECT
# ------------------
# leave blank for no input, "console" to read from the console window,
# and any path to a file to read from that file
lax.stdin.redirect=console
# LAX.STDOUT.REDIRECT
# -------------------
# leave blank for no output, "console" to send to a console window,
# and any path to a file to save to the file
lax.stdout.redirect=console
6. Save and close D2OL.lax
7a. For Windows: edit the properties of your desktop shortcut so the command reads:
"<path to client>\D2OL.exe" controller:cli
Launch the client using this shortcut.
7b.For Linux: From a console enter "nice -19 ./<path to client>\D2OL controller:cli
(you want the nice switch, otherwise it will run the child-processes at normal priority)
