I just installed EON on a Mandrake linux box.
Followed all the installation instructions verbatim.
Whether I start the client with output redirected to eon.out as suggested, or simply run the client using ./client , all I get is this (either in eon.out or console window):
We read 512 bytes.
Valid signature detected.
client app signature is good.
It doesn't ever seem to get any work. My windows box is crunching along. They are both on the same switch connected to my DSL.
Any ideas?
You can get out to the outside world on this box right ?
can you do a
ping www.google.com
and make sure it gets a reply.
I've never had the client not work except due a missing libstdc++ library which I just copy across.

I'm posting from this linux box. I guess that counts as outside world :)
How would the client react with the missing library? Any error msgs?
It looks like I have that library in /usr/lib libstdc++.so.5.0.3
yeah, it would tell you straight off.
Can you give me an ls -l of the directory and also a cat of your client.cfg.
Maybe want to cut out your email address first.

netstat shows a tcp connection open to the IP of eon.chem.washington.edu on port 10204 status= time_wait
I've run other DC projects such as DF on this box.
can you try a
telnet eon.chem.washington.edu 10204
and see if you are really getting in.
Failing that, if you have strace on the box, you can try
strace ./client
and see if it gives anything.
If not I'll mail Graeme and see if he has any ideas. I can even install Mandrake on a box and see if I get it too.

Telnet attempt gives this - looks good to me.
$ telnet eon.chem.washington.edu 10204
Trying 128.95.128.124...
Connected to bestla.chem.washington.edu (128.95.128.124).
Escape character is '^]'.
no strace on the box
Thanks for the help!
All else fails, I'll boot back into W2k and run it there. I wanted to see how fast it would run under linux.
really strange. It is a lot faster under linux too. I know it works fine under Red Hat, Gentoo, FreeBSD, Slackware etc.
I'll try a mandrake 9.1 install later and see if I can see what is going on.

Is the old EON forum gone forever ?
If it hasn't been deleted by whoever hosted it before, could some of the informatiom in the threads be transfered to here ?
Yeah, I believe it was lost unfortunately :(
I'm installing Mandrake 9.1 right now. It's on a P4 2.6HT though it only had a SATA drive in.... :trash:
Found another drive and it's running so I'll try and debug why it doesn't work.
Great job today PCZ !! :|party|:
Bok
Shame the old info is lost.
I suppose that if a resolution to willy1's problem is found we could transfer the thread to the official forum.
I let all my linux boxes play with EON today.
EDCO is starting to move up the ranks and I don't want him overtaking me !!
Good luck trying to keep up with fritz :D
Fritz has a lot of machines at his disposal, though he told me recently that he is burning in a number of linux boxes at work....
Ok, got mandrake 9.1 (yuk!) installed and started up Eon and it ran just fine
willy1, could you maybe try to get this package Eon (http://www.open-dc.org/eon.tar.gz)
create a new directory
run tar xvfz eon.tar.gz
edit the config file and put in your email address
and run
./client
see if it does anything different.

That one works a charm.
Started right up - I notice it doesn't have the certFile and doesn't fell the need to check it...
Where'd you get that?
The curious need to know
:elephant: :elephant: :elephant:
It's the one I've always used.. I guess it just came from the eon site quite some time ago :)
Glad it works, let's see what kind of output that does!!
Oh and I may as well leave that box on mandrake for a while. what's one more linux box :)
Bok :D
Hey Willy1, looks like your output increased dramtically using the linux client!!

Pretty amazing , isn't it?
Makes one wonder what's wrong with the Windoze client......
It's because (I believe) pasrt of the client is written in fortran and the windows compiler for fortran sucks...

:D After I learned how to program computers, I had to move someplace where there was one!
I have found a way to quickly convert my windows boxes to linux without installing anything.
PXE booting is great.

I just installed Mandrake on a dualie and am trying Eon.
In my client.log file there is a bunch of "RecvIdaMessage failed."
I did change the "email:" in the config file...
Did I do something wrong ?
I sure hope it is working...

It's working, but the server looks as though it is down at the moment. It may not be back until monday now.

Is anyone running a 2.6.* kernel with eon? My computer is locking up randomly just replaced cpu a few weeks ago and even tried raising vcore up +.100
I've ran it on a few 2.6.3 kernels (gentoo) just fine. On a P4, athlon XP2600 and athlon64 3200+ (64bit mode)
What distro you running and what mobo, cpu is it?

gentoo
kernel: gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.4
motherboard: epox 8kha+
cpu: AMD XP1800+ tbred B
ram: 256mb crucial 2100 ddr
psu: aopen 300w
I switched motherboard and cpu not long ago I had shuttle ak31 and XP1800+ tbred A and I know the shuttle had problems with the "B's" maybe the epox does too but is suppose to support up to 2400+ but I don't know if thats A or B
