I am curious to know what it takes to produce DF rates like the best of you. For instance the top five rates are currently:
FoBoT @5.7 million,
Condor @5.5,
beth133 @4.6,
PCZ @2.9,
Fozzie @2.1.

Those of us back in the pack don't even come close, despite following all the suggestions about speed (text client, no output, more memory). Your rates in the millions are 100 times faster than those of us in the 10s of thousands; i.e. I'd have to run 100 days to match your 1.

Without giving away any secrets you want to keep, can you shed some light on how you are accomplishing numbers like these? At a minimum I want my next computer to be like yours!

I don't need to know motherboards etc, just basics like approx. how many running at once, using what CPUs and O/S?

TIA.

I'm not in the top five - but close...

I'm running 22 clients on P4 2.8 HT boxes under W2K, and another couple on various other P4 or AMD XP CPUs

They run it on more than one machine. In some cases, many many more than one.

Now I'm scrabbling round for anything that will run it.:trash:

So there you go the secret is borg a whole bucket load of boxen.:D

i wonder where you all get this boxen from....do you work as a network admin at a big company where you are using the workstations if they are idle? or at a university?

if i would use all the crunching power of the boxes from the company i'm working for i wouldn't even come close to your power...(except the ultrasparcs in the server room)

colleagues at work who allow me to use machines as long as it doesn't impinge on their use. I had the last set of boxen for quite some time before they got allocated elsewhere.

I am trying to do a deal with another section at the moment.

In the meantime I am using what little I can within my own team.

I used JoeProCooling's batch files to distribute the files and ran it out of hours as we have a policy to leave all PC's on and logged off over night.
