I'm doing that because I was asked sometimes what kind of car I have... (because of the title below the username)
Dear interested people!

May I introduce you my new car?

It is a Ford Focus. It is a wagon and a Diesel.

Some data:
100 Horsepower (74 kW)
5 liter per 100 km consumption (--> about 2,35 gallons per 100 miles, if me and wirthi calculated correctly)
front-wheel-drive

Click on the pics to enlarge them to 640x480

It is one year old, so it's a second hand car...

It has:
- an automatic air condition
- a CD-Radio
- a lot of airbags and other security thingys
- a big luggage trunk (from 520 to 1580 liters, if backseats aren't used)
- ...
just a usual car...

The car I had before was a 14 year old Ford Sierra. A wagon too and uses gasoline :D

Had 120 Horsepower and more than 9 liters per 100 km consumption...
I didn't come through the yearly checkup, because there was to much rust on the important parts of the car. It costs more than the car itself to repair it :(

It has rear-wheel-drive... much fun in winter :D

Diesel?

ugh. I'll stick with my '92 Plymouth Voyager (in all it's minivan glory). I get ~35 miles to the gallon with the air conditioning, and 5 people in the car. Workhorse V4 engine, don't know about the horsepower, but I know we can't go above 55 up a hill if we have more the 1000lbs of stuff in the car (not counting the car).

PS: other than the diesel, I like the car

Wirthi you don't know modern Diesels I think.....

Try a BMW 330d, 6Zylinder 3liter engine , has 204 horsepower(and lots of torque ,too the sam engine in a 530d has 440NM torque!) ...it is a diesel and just kicks ass...
The same is true for (but not quite as exiting ) for a VW Golf 4 with a 1.9l TDI diesel engine, has about 130 horsepower is really fast when accelerating and uses about 5l on 100km whe going 100km/h....

And please remember gas is not quite as cheap over here in Europe as it is in the US....one gallon of regular would cost you about 5.16$ (if my math is right) for diesel it is "only" 4.02$ (again, when my math is right:cool: )
So in Europe the call is more and more on diesel...

Apart from the fact that you meant magicfan241, you'r right, I don't know anything about cars, except how to drive them, and which ones look good :)

Congratulations mk for that great car!

Nice car the-mk!! Hope you enjoy it :)

I'm selling my VW Beetle Turbo Diesel because I can't afford it, but it gets 41mpg in town and 45+ on highway. Great farking car.

Dude.. you've got lots of space at the back of the car!

Get creative and use it wisely. *wink* :D

You know, people in our area are complaining that gas is $1.79 per gallon over here. Diesel is $1.82 a gallon.

Besides, every car I know that uses diesel smells horrid.

Yeah! Todays Diesel just kicks ass! :whip: :whip:

But without turbocharger, direct injection, common rail, "Pumpe-Düse" (or pump injection, or how to translate that right) would be a Diesel nothing :geezer:

And modern Diesel kicks ass because they have the torque at lower engine speeds. My TDCi has 240 NM at 1750 rpm... Gasoline driven motors have fewer torque and they have it at higher engine speeds (a comparable gas engine has about 140 NM at 4000 rpm)

(based on one U.S. liquid gallon = 3,785 liter)
One gallon Diesel costs here in Austria about 2,75€ to 3€ and one gallon gas about 3,7€

@Thor: makes the eco-tax fuel really so much more expensive in Germany? (or did you calculate with imperial gallons = 4,546 liters?)

@Chinasaur: I really enjoy it :) How old is your Beetle?

@PY 222: in my old '90 Ford Sierra I was able to put a whole mattress into the trunk (using no back seats of corse)... :D and yes: I'll use the space wisely :D

@magicfan241: do you mean older (>7 years) Diesels or younger one? Maybe the older ones don't have any catalytic converter

And at $1.79 you guys are already complaining! Over here in the Bay Area we are getting hit with gas prices that are obscene.

Damn.

Damn...if we had Focus diesels here, I might have bought one. Then again, the US Focuses are the most recalled car around these days. They don't seem to have the quality of the European ones.

And, since I live all of 15 min. from Ford world HQ, that really ticks me off.

Of course, what I really wanted was a Cooper Mini....I have heard rumours they are coming out with diesel Minis, but only for the European market.

Nice set of wheels, The-MK.

I still miss my '82 VW Jetta (German built, before they started building them here). Best I ever got was 62 miles to the gallon, and when that idiot in NYC tried to steal it, he didn't hit the glow plug, and it sounded so bad they left it. Guess they didn't know it'd stop sounding like a sewing machine on testosterone in a few minutes.
