View Full Version : Arachnid stats RIP

It's nt totally Dead, it will be replaced hopefully
From the Arachnid site
told you it was probably coming and so it has. I've taken Arachnid offline and it won't be back. It's been running now for about a year and a half with very little in the way of trouble, but it's about time for something bigger and better. I'm currently working on a new stats system with support for pretty much every project under the sun. It isn't ready yet, but I decided to take Arachnid down now for several reasons. One is to offload some of the bandwidth usage I'm seeing on this line. The other is to free up some computer resources for use on the new project.
The new system (which I haven't come up with a good name for yet) will be hosted elsewhere on a much larger pipe. It will probably be distributed across several servers and may even become a collaborative effort at some time in the future. I've already got a large chunk of the new codebase written, but it's a long way from being done. I know this leaves some of you without stats for awhile and for that I'm sorry. I promise that I'll try to ensure that the new system is good enough to make up for it. ;)
In the meantime, you can find a good list of stats compiled by my buddy IronBits right here. The page is created primarily for Free-DC users, but if you look in the 3rd party stats column, you'll find an array of links going to other stats sites. Hopefully you'll find something useful among them

Click on the number hyperlink next to your name to get a personalized snapshot. Scroll to the bottom of that page for a dozen graphs! Although not the pretty 3d ones that Arachnid had...

Thanks :D again.
Defanatly ot as prity but yes does give a good feeling showing how were crunching past a few atm. I not certain how all this works yet and if they will be comming back at us or if I going to be able to keep us going from strength to strength.
I hope the clients keep running whial I am away thats for certain and that if not my house m8 can work out how to get them going as 2 and half weeks of lostt crunching power would be horable :(

Did not think the Gopher could do it all on his own :moon:
Anyway, welcome to the "fold". :drums: :elephant:

It's where you are. :jester: Big ups to Gopher for his recruiting prowess. I do see you in my mirror, big man (men?).
As for Arachnid, I'm also truly sad to see it go, but I consider the loss temporary. Occasionally, to take two steps forward, you have to take one step back. The uber-site that Dyy will come up with will most likely be spectacular, based on his previous work. For now, I'll just enjoy MacNN's analysis column.
Also, I wanted to add my sincere thanks for all the hard work that (our own) Dyyryath put into the Arachnid stats. That work has certainly made crunching in DF and CB much more enjoyable for me, along with many others.
sad to see they are off :(
team macnn stats are a bit overloaded for my taste and i've seen some values are sometimes not accurate...
are there any official plans how long it will take till the new stats system comes out?
any beta version of what it will look like yet? (except stats.free-dc.org)
perhaps someone could host the old stats since the new ones are online...i imagine they will take some time to be completed..

I wish to thank Dyyryath for the devotion you have provided for all of us. As someone who has created and maintained stats pages before, athough not to nearly this calibre, I know how demanding this can be at times.
There is definitely going to be a void in this project without the best stats system ever designed for a DC project. Hence we will be looking forward to the day when you implement your next stats project if you choose to proceed with it. :)

ARRRRGH!
Going through withdrawal here...
Does anyone else have a good team summary level stats page going?
Statmans' is hard to deal with - only updating every 4 hours, and the graphs aren't scalable.
MacNN doesn't seem to have a team-to-team comparision page, neither does MarcC over on ars-techniwobble.
 We miss Arachnid!!!!!

Sorry to see Dyyryath took the stats down prior to releasing the replacement. They were an excellent design, easy to navigate and easy to understand. Let's hope the new stats don't take too long to finish and come on-line.

Lol, I can't believe some of you were unaware of den's stats, considering there is a link to them on the Blueprint "links" page. :jester: I haven't visited them in a long time myself, but last time I saw them, they were for phase I and II combined, which will make some things look funny to certain people.
Thanks Cmarc, for the use of your stats as well.

I had a nice reply, then I hit a wrong button :(
Let's try this again.
You are all welcome to use the Team MacNN stats while dyy's are down.
You've already found the link, but here's the main page, basic stats. The one above is for advanced stats, which is pretty detailed.
http://teamstats.macnn.com/dfold/stats.php?page=b1&TID=5
You've got choices of listings of all members, active members, inactive, etc.
The dropdown menu at the top controls that page.
Below that you've got the level of stats, which controls the amount of detail it shows. You can also adjust the time reference, and on pages like personals, you can adjust who is listed, and make comparison graphs between you and other members, etc.
We really don't have inter team stats yet, that code isn't finished, but this might tide you over just a little.

If there's too much detail, it might be because the link at the top of the thread was for a very detailed version. Try my link, it's got less detail.
As for accuracy, what you are calling inaccuracy is most likely the fact that we use rolling 7 day rates for most generated statistics. However, if you still feel something is wrong, point it out.
The same goes for everyone. If there's something you don't understand, or think is wrong, just ask.
