I'm using trillian and I'm online at ICQ (prefered) and MSN (just for a few friends who only have MSN). Never tried any other, since everybody among my friends & schoolmates uses ICQ.

If I'm using any IM service (rare), I'm using the chat portion of Groove.
I love groove, it's windows file sharing (local network and accepted others), plus a whole lot more (version tracking, etc.)

1st trillian pro(if i could afford it), 2nd GAIM (i use it but does not has voice chat), 3rd Yahoo! for voice and video chat. I NEVER EVER EVER EVER use AIM, that's a peice of crap software bloated with spyware. And MSN just bugs me to death with all it's security wholes and everything. oh but my favorite network to chat with other peopel woudl be AIM.

Some time ago, like maybe 3-4 years, I decided to try IM and tested a bunch of clients that were available then. The ones I tested (under Windoze) were all CPU hogs. Being as how I like my cycles to go to my current DC love (whatever project that may be), I decided I could live without any of them.
HOWEVER, if anyone can recommend one that is demonstrably a good citizen, CPU-usage wise, I'd be happy to re-evaluate that situation. We're talking mostly Win2000 boxen here, btw.
I'm mainly using ICQ and MSN because that's what my friends use. Trying to change that is pretty much impossible, that said Jabber (http://www.jabber.org/) looks pretty neat. I've played around with it a bit but I never really started using it. Oh, and I use gaim for all my IM stuff (icq, msn, yahoo, jabber).

Using ICQ because there is no one else who uses other protocolls to contact me.
All the people I write use ICQ.
I'm using the Trillian-client (basic 0.74G)
Paritma: Give Trillian (http://www.trillian.cc/downloads/) a try. I've running it for almost a week now and the Taskmanager tells me that trillian.exe used about one minute of cpu-time, if that isn't too much for you :D

Jabber all the way :smoking: (check my signature)
I'm using the PSI client: http://psi.affinix.com/
Jabber have serverside "gateways" to other networks, so I am able to talk with people that haven't seen the light yet ;) (ie they are still using MSN og ICQ)
EDIT: oh...and of course IRC, the absolute favorite is of course IRC

the-mk: I'm back after a brief timeout from all things online.
I looked at Trillian at one time, but never got around to actually installing it. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the tip!

/me doesn't see IRC on the list...
I don't use anything except for IRC. Can't stand anything else. Especially AIM. Whoever programmed that software ought to be shot! Whats with the 8000 different windows that have to be open to talk to people?!

IM differs from irc in certain ways - example: Each person have their own contact list that is private to that person.
IRC is great and I use it a lot, but IM has it's uses too.
