At first I get this error, error 908 incorrect protein. And the auto update doesn't work. So I reextracted a new installation, and the auto update works. Ok fine. After that, I try to upload to the server, and it doesn't work, NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER.

"ERROR: [777.000] {ncbi_socket.c, line 838} [SOCK::s_Connect] Failed SOCK_gethostbyname(anteater4.distributedfolding.org)
ERROR: [777.000] {ncbi_connutil.c, line 494} [URL_Connect] Socket connect to anteater4.distributedfolding.org:80 failed"

I wasted 120k structures because of this problem, and still unable to solve the problem. ARGH!!!

Anyone here care to help???

You are still using an old version. If it does not auto-update (which it should) please get the latest one. Thanks

I've already updated to the latest version, but I still cannot connect to the server when uploading the proteins.

Well I can't help you without an error.log or an error message. Perhaps you are behind a firewall and need to use a web proxy.

I'm using dial-up. I have the same error message everytime. The error message is exactly the same as the above.

It used to work. But this problem came out a few days ago. I'm using text client FYI.

Tourist...

You are still using an old client.

The upload server name changes with each protein.
The current server name is anteater5.distributedfolding.org.

Download the newest version and go from there.

How do I update? It doesn't work automatically...
And does that mean all my old structures are useless?

It doesn't happen COMPLETELY automatically, yet.

Go to the download page (http://www.distributedfolding.org/Download.html) and suck the latest & greatest into your machine. Unpack it right over the top of your current directory. (Your 8-byte handle file will be preserved.) Fire it up using the new <foldit> .bat or command file and you're on your way. You may have to start it a couple of times for it to get updated and ready to roll again.

As to your current results. Yes, you've probably lost them. We have ALL lost results at one time or another. Consider: (a) the project is still relatively young and the people who run it are still learning the best way to do THEIR thing, and (b) we each have to learn the best way to do OUR thing. Consider this as just a bump in the road. It really IS a great project.

Thanks for the help! I finally got it running again. I've tried for many days, it never ask for download confirmation until just now...weird. 120k structures gone just like that...

My pleasure! It can be maddening, when you think you've done everything just right and it still just sits there, and you feel like  or maybe even :swear:. Just learn and move on. Happy folding. :D

Yeah we've all lost a lot. All my boxes look like this:

That sucks! I hate the constant client updates. DF is really really bad for dial-up users, or should I say pay-per-use type connection. I only upload once a day, about 100k structures to upload. Plus the client updates rendering the crunched structures useless.

For sure, this isn't the kind of project you'd want to leave on autopilot for a month or more.

(Hey, there's an idea, Colin! You could go for say, a month-long cruise, and I'll watch your farm for you. :p Make it a couple months!)

After the next protein switch, it will supposedly settle down for a while. I'd guess that the switch will happen Monday or Tuesday. Then, as I understand it, we'll get a much bigger protein and a larger work-space as well. And the switchover is really the only drawback of this project over most of the others. And Howard (Brian the Fist) (love that name) is really working to make switchovers smoother.

Can you imagine how far ahead of you I'd be if I did not lose work???

Cruise? Nah. Someone has to keep you on your toes:)

On my toes? (http://www.toefun.com/images/toes2/7toe2.jpg) Really, Colin.
