Got one under a different UK brand name (Evesham for those UK'ers) - very nice but does get warm when running on battery power (and speakers are crap)....

(and XP64 should be out mid-June :D)

I like it lots - beats all my normal non-dual workstations...as for memory haven't looked at that but need to as SQL Server gets a bit sluggish with 512MB...

Not sure if it does - the mobo is reported as a MiTAC 8355 under AIDA32 if it helps...

http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=7320 has a fairly recent list of drivers for the lappy - not sure if yours will come with them but may help to take a copy (just in case ;))

/edit - further delving via AIDA32 shows the memory used to be 200pin Unbuffered SO-DIMM

Well, in md5crk project it gives me a smooth
11 MegaMD5/sec Average. :D
I love this keyboard layout!
The EXTRA WIDE screen at 1280x800 15.1" screen is just fabulous!!!
Nice ATI 9600 mobile radeon seems to be ok, will load up some games later and test it
Pretty snappy to!
Just what I was looking for.... EXACTLY in fact. :)

Funny, naming it after a Motorola 8-bit CPU. Guess you have to start reusing numbers sooner or later, or you run out! :p

I always wondered what they did with all of those Commodore PETs.

Just as I was putting the finishing touches on the laptop late last night, I did something to the file system and it won't boot up anymore, but I'll be back on it again tonight to get it working again ;)

Is that the normal or P4 client? I've found using the P4 client is about 5% faster due to the use of SSE2...

matrix_fan

the athlon64 has sse2 ;)

pfb
04-15-2004, 02:57 PM
that's what I implied- the normal client doesn't recognise SSE2 (or doesn't for me) but the P4 client does... ;)

oh, lol, sorry, when u said u found it 5% faster, that was on a P4 right?

pfb

nope - the P4 client is about 5% faster on a AMD64 than the normal one due to the use of SSE2...

I had made a change to the system settings to set aside more memory for CACHE rather than applications and it caused the computer to loop, crash, loop :swear:

Once I was able to get the sucker up into safe mode, I changed it back and then installed SP2 beta and got almost everything back except the IE :bang:

Re-installing SP2 to see if that might straighten it out once and for all. :bonk:

If not, I will use the 'Restore CD' that came with it and start from scratch and I found out there is no 'Microsoft XP Home' physical CD. :trash:

I'll try your p4 edition on my desktop amd64 tho  :D

iirc that's an issue with the ATi drivers - changing the system cache settings can cause problems...as I found out when I installed my 9800SE AIW in my desktop... :bang:

/edit - the ATi link for that 'problem' : http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4217.html

This problem occurs when the computer runs out of system page table entries. Windows determines (at boot time) the default number of page table entries to assign, based on the amount of system memory available. The items mentioned above all contribute to increasing the number of page table entires that Windows XP must maintain and in extreme cases the page table entries may be exhausted.

To avoid this symptom ensure the System Cache option is NOT selected for Memory usage. Use the Programs option.

Not sure if it's ATi or MS to blame :jester:

Now ya tell me
Crunching and typing just fine, now to hunt down the p4 md5crk client.
I heard it was faster :)

edit
nix that idea about the intel client being faster, at least on this box ;)
it is slower on this amd64 mobile...
