Do we need a new sub-forum in The Lounge for US Political debates?
With the upcoming elections, I'm trying to be considerate of our non-US members so they don't have to be exposed to it if they don't want to.
EDITED BY DYYRYATH: This seems like a possibility, depending on how the community feels about it. However, if we do it, it won't be limited to US politics, but rather be set aside for politics in general. With that in mind, I've changed Chinasaur's wording a bit and reset the votes to zero. Everyone should feel free to come on in and vote now. Thanks for setting up the poll, Chinasaur!
EDITED BY IRONBITS: added a 'just say NO'

Frankly, I find Canadian politics fascinating, and how about those elections in Afghanistan? Karzai just kissed some serious warlord tush.
It is bad enough to have to live in the US. To create a forum for US politics and not European, Canadian, Indian, etc. is to just add to the stereotype that Americans think the US is the world.

How can we do US political discussions without having a place for everybodys
political discussions? UK, Canada etc...
I say leave politics out of this well designed board.
If you have to talk politics use irc.

I'm not adverse to a new subforum for 'Politics'. I wouldn't limit it to any specific country or culture, though. It might be a good way to allow our community members to discuss such things (so long as it's done politely ;) ) without intruding on the regular 'flow' of the lounge.
I actually enjoy hearing what my fellow members think about such things from time to time.
What does everyone else think?

Definitly! Free-DC is not about discussing politics, but quite a few of use are interested in that field, so the best solution would be to create a separate forum.

Separate forum sounds good to me.

Politics and religion don't belong in here and have nothing to do with Free-DC.
I think it would be wise if we didn't go there at all.
We all get along because we probably don't know that kind of information about each other :D
I 'vote' NO :swear:
If you all want to do something like that,
you could use Moogies forum for political and religious adventures.
She would welcome something like that, and, when you register, you could use a new handle so no one knows who you are :rotfl:

I have to agree with IronBits 100% on this one.

After reflection, so do I.
I'm going to cease posting about it. It's futile anyway :)
Peace.

I guess I don't see any harm in posting comments of any nature (or articles, items of interest) in the lounge. I don't see the necessity of keeping everything Free-DC related. Of course, I didn't see any problem posting on the Front Page about things like that either because IMO, it adds some variety and spice to the boards.
I love to be able to read about, and debate (in a friendly manner) about all the different ideas from all walks of life. It opens one's mind up to many possibilities. I have no problem if someone disagrees with my political, religious or any other beliefs, as they are my own, and I respect your right to have your own.
That being said, I'll be in agreement with whatever anyone else wants.

Everyone is entitled to there our opion and, but I can see this causing some problems. Free-DC is a very open and easy going community and there is a place for some talk in the lounge, but I'm with IB on this one. Politics can stir emotion in some people that will cause arguments and detract from the reason we are here.
We all belive in DC and are tring to help in some way.
Politics can do the same thing but dont have the solidarity the we do here.

I agree with IB. Politics and religion are hot topics that, in my experiences, tend to divide a diverse group (like ours) more often than they unite one.
That said, I plead guilty to adding my $.02 in the Reagan thread. As penance, I shall take one wet noodle and give myself 10 lashes with it. :p

While I like a heated discussion I feel that Free-DC is a bit laid back for such things. It would be completly out of character for this site.

I was the first to vote NO, shame there was not a button for no, no, and thrice no.
Causes to many problems that we don't need.
We know how upset we get if a Distributed Folding update doesn't go quite to plan!!!, and that is why we are here.
