View Full Version : We need some more boxen guys and gals

Whilst we currently have 4 out of 10 of the top ten producers today, them there Cows just have too many hooves a thundering.
Ergo we need a few more bodies to offset their number.
So, if you have a spare box or 20 pop 'em on DF at least until we thoroughly demoralise the Cows, and they capitulate.

Got a new box almost put together (XP2400...), have another on the way (in the next couple of days)...I'll do what I can but it's not much.
:)
Due to time and this damn heat I hadn't converted my boxen over.
I've just put 4 of my boxes at work here onto it. I'll do a couple of others and then try and get some of the home farm running on it tonight :)

How are the CASP6 updates going? I can throw what I have on FAD (6 boxen) here but I don't want to have to babysit them. It's not that big of a deal, only two of the boxes would be a pain the update, but I'd prefer to not have to worry about manually updating everything every week.

Would like to say rehi too all....went and spent some time on boinc after all the server problems here...and ran into more of a mess there :bonk:
So a big hi to fozzie .... and special hi to Moogie:cheers:
Just put 3 boxes on ..... slow but sure :whip:

@ maganavox
I have only one box, but the autoupdate worked fine this time. It started a little after the time when the new download was available, but it worked:)

Ok, well I thew on 5.4ghz and I'll throw another 1.5ghz on in about an hour. I have another 6ghz I could throw on but they are all low memory machines and I don't know how much they would even be able to contribute without the -rt switch, so I may leave them on FAD (two 2.4ghz cellies and a AMD XP 1800).

The updates were good for me, but then, we seemed to have a power outage at home today which won't help my numbers any. To top it off, I'm having trouble getting one of my boxen to start up now.
Heya rel...it's good to see you here.
added a few boxen at home :p
They are all churning through their gen 0's just now.

I'll toss a couple of boxen onto the fire. I hope I have better luck with this go 'round than the last time I ran DF:bang: (Here's hoping). ;) :)
Since DHEP seems to be having server issues, I'll try to port over those systems that have crashed on DHEP over to DF.

P.S. This is not a good omen. Already, I'm running into problems trying to download the client!!!:bang::bang: :bang: :swear:

The autoupdate seems to have gone perfectly for me - 20-odd Winders boxen all updated without intervention.

Lost power for 4 hours but back now. One system couldnt recover and must begin the 30000 mile trek all over. Sadly, after 24hours it was almost done with its first 30K when the thunderstorm rolled through.

Once I've reached a short term UD goal, I'm going to join the gauntlet and throw all my machines in to keep the cows at bay. Not sure what my farm is capable of in DF but we'll see soon.
Now, the question is which gauntlet team to join? Bribes accepted!!!! :D :jester:

Is there a way to buffer workunits in DF? I wasn't sure if there was a way to queue them up just in case of server failure. I've downloaded dfGUI.
Paratima
07-20-2004, 04:39 PM
In case of server failure, they will buffer up automatically. :)
When the server becomes available, the load automatically, also.
There aren't workunits as such, you just start from a basline and it calculates results from there. So if you are offline for any reason, it will continue to buffer it's own generated results quite happily.
Other tips :
On windows make sure you have the client hidden as it takes up some resource. It's an option on dfGUI.
Use the extra ram check if you have 256 or more in the machine.
Welcome on board!!!
Bok
Fozzie
07-20-2004, 04:41 PM
you have all the WUs you need. The first gen generates a start point from which the next 250 progress. Once that is finished the client generates another without the need to connect to the server.
No WUs to download just results to upload as they are generated.
You need to edit the foldit.bat batch file and add -rt -qt and -if if you fold offline and dump (like me) or -it if you have a direct or proxied Internet connection. DFGUI will change all these switches for you I beleive by checking boxes.

I'll add you in as soon as you appear on the DF stats as I need your ID which is generated by DF. You have joined the Free-DC team right ?

Hey EM,
I get busy with work and all so usually only browse the forums. Every now and again I get some time to be more active. So many familiar faces over here as well. I'm looking at d20l and tsc after my foray into df so maybe I'll see you over there next.
Bok, I forgot to put in a username so that none is me. Seems like I'm off to a slow start but I'll be patient and see what I wake up to tomorrow morning.
Ok,
I'll add you in tomorrow morning. It needs to be in the 2nd day anyway for my stats to pick it up and it does a join between yesterday and today to get current day score :)
