My roommate and I are in a debate over being gay and straight.

Her arguement is that being gay is abnormal and being straight is normal. Based on the fact that being straight is normal because you have to have a man and a woman to reproduce, and that you are not able to not count in the reproduction factor in being gay. Now, she believes it is not WRONG to be gay, but it is not normal.

I say it is normal to be gay or straight. Yes, I admit that you cannot reproduce if you are gay, but I say it is still normal to be gay no matter what.

She says it is impossible to not count in the factor that gays cannot reproduce therefore it is not normal.

We both agree being gay is fine, but we disagree whether or not it is normality. She also says that most people are straight, so in this situation majority rules and that makes it normal.

I've tried to use comparisons in other situations of majority rule that would not be right nor normal, but she says "That doesn't count, I'm talking about the whole planet of people and not a small sectored group."

Can someone help me get this through her head that being gay is normal?

(This entire discussion arose from discussing Bush and Kerry's stance on gay-marriage).

P.S. She also disagrees with gay-adoption because it would put pressure on the child to be gay. And...she uses Bible quotes to justify her means.

Stop trying to change other people's minds. It doesn't work.

Having said that, google or a good reference librarian (preferably) will set you up. Search on "homosexual" and "animals". And, if you go the google route, be aware that most of what you'll find is polemical crap from both sides.

Having spent the last 30 years fighting this battle, I'm tired.
