I've heard some stuff about people crunching with video cards, does anybody know anything about this?

I don't have a lot of room for computers, so any project that can use video cards, including silly ones, I want to know about.

For those of you who are reading this right now, I'm off to find the link.

Another link (http://graphics.stanford.edu/projects/brookgpu/)

Note: Since I don't know anything about video cards, I haven't been able to discern whether this is a hoax or not(no concrete reason to believe it is).

It's not a hoax.

In fact, the team behind Folding@Home has been working to implement this idea for the project. See here

It is not a hoax.

Video cards do have powerful processors.
They only run a limited instruction set and it is difficult to implement a DC client.
Early attempts at using a GPU have had limited success.
The GPU processes OK but the PC's own processor is also heavily loaded.
Few people have the 'Top End' cards that would make this worthwhile.
This will change as Video cards are increasing in power all the time.
