I'm working on a project for a computer architecture class involving long simulations of program runs. the university has a cluster application for this, but due to some technical considerations I am unable to use it. I've been using my own machine to run the simulations with good results but my machine has had some issues lately, and despite being faster than any of the machines i have access to at school, it's not the fastest draw in the west. so i thought, where could i find a faster machine?
enter some generous donor of cycles from Free-DC! :)
if someone would be willing to give me temporary access to an account on a linux/unix box until december 16 or so and some unused cycles during that period i would be most grateful.
the box can be just about any flavor of unix (preferably having access to a bash shell though), but i'll need about 400-500MB of HD space, and preferably faster than my Athlon XP 2100+. memory usage is quite modest.
for CPU cycles, i have about 10-15 simulations to run each of which takes 5-6 hours on my machine, so it won't be going 24/7. (hopefully i wont have to run them more than once or twice)
i'll also need to download a 300MB file (just once) in a reasonable amount of time (overnight is fine).
no ground-breaking medical research or anything going on here, but i promise it's a good cause :)
thanks!
