View Full Version : SB v2.2 Installation Woes on WinXP [RESOLVED]

I have been running SB1.25 quite happily for a while and was pleased to see the announcement of SB2.2 especially as it appears that I would benefit from some extra speed in processing.

So, I dutifully downloaded the new client, stopped the old one, and removed it (via control panel add/remove programs), installed the new one and ran it.

Now, it seems that SoB has started a new test from scratch, although I can't work see why or how.

Where is it getting it's test data from? I have a copy of my old z.... file from last nights backup but SoB ignores it and carries on working with the new test.

Also, all my account details seem to have vanished - it always asks me if I want to create a new login every time I run it.

Any thoughts, advice etc, most gratefully recieved

don't uninstall and that won't happen. i'll add instructions to that effect to the news.

if you want to restart the test, checkout these instructions: http://www.free-dc.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7434

Cheers,
Louie

Nope, not resolved... :(

The instructions for lost proth test suggest that I ammend the k & n values in the registry in a path which (in my case - does not exist). After editing these, and reloading, SB complains of problems reading the registry.

I'm now going back to SB1.25 and trying to get that to work again before experimenting with 2.2 - Perhaps if the source was made available, us programmers could make some sense of what is happening! :) :)

Finally :)

I lengthy process, but at least it works - In case anyone has the same problem: (Remember, I had a backup of the z.... file)

1. Deinstall v2.2
2. Install v1.25
3. Create new login - us a bogus account name for now
4. Shutdown SB
5. Using regedit, alter your k and n values (and copy r the z.... file to the correct location)
6. Using regedit, alter your username
7. Restart SB. check the progress
8. Shutdown SB
9. Install SB v2.2 OVER THE TOP OF SB v1.25

Thanks to Louie, no thanks to Bill Gates :)

I also wanted to point out at one time I had problems installing sb into a different directory. If one really want's to go deeper into the registry modifications one can also change application paths etc, also if the reg dwords etc are not there they can be created.
