is it hard to learn/use?

does it come with stuff like a linux distro does? (like DB and stuff)

Usually not Fobot,

and historically solaris on x86 has not been as robust as linux, at least in my experience. It is also probably a little harder to use than linux I think as the documentation is harder to come by, though if you know unix you can probably get around ok.

I still manage a number of solaris 8 / 9 machines on sun hardware though and they are rock stable.

Linux binary compatability isn't released yet. It is planned, though.

Solaris is a bit more difficult to use, but there are wonderful websites filled with help out there, and it is rock stable. You can run Linux and BSD apps on it. It has lovely system administration tools.

Probably overkill for home use, but irresistable, anyway. I'll toss it on one of my comps, but mainly because we run Solaris on our critical servers at work.

The more I work with Solaris, the easier Linux becomes.
