In one of my A+ courses the instructor said that computers (not including CRT monitors) use very low levels of electricity and I just wanted yall's take on it.

my farm (of 10 CPUs / 7 PCs - 2 are duallies) costs me around £1/day running whichever DC project my team needs (atm FaD) - that's with 1 monitor on around 4-5 hours a day...personally, I find that is cheap for running that amount of processing power 'at home' - the typical (UK) household with it's 1 (or 2 if it's a younger family) PCs would be capable of running their PC sans monitor 24/7 - but the whole idea of DC stills seems geekified...

just my 2p worth...

It cost me here in Chicago about 10.00 per PC per month to run 24/7
I am not sure what a Kilowatt cost me tho
My bill is in the 700+ range per month in the off season and near 1000 with Air

so you eat Ramen Noodles and wear the same clothes from when you were 10 right?

Cause I don't see how anyone could afford that....

I've got 2 systems over 2GHz that are running 24/7 and the monitors shut off after 20 mins of non-use.

I pay $50/mo ($75/mo w/ air) for my electric bill in Indiana.

Gas is 1.99-2.15 in Indiana right now...

I pay about $45 to sticker my car...

Property taxes in Indiana are getting expensive....

They just recently doubled to like $3000 for a $150,000 home I think....

That's expensive to these people...a lot of old people live in some pretty expensive homes and had to sell them cause they couldn't afford the taxes...

LAURENU2...you should jump over to Indiana and live here....your electric bill would drop and you'd have extra money to get more comps and make it equal what you were paying in Chicago....

:)

Think yourselves fortunate that you aren't paying UK prices for petrol. :bang:
It's over 4 quid a gallon.

Electricity is around 8p a unit.

Are you sure that is right PCZ?

1 gallon = 4.545 litres. Last time I filled up with diesel it was 82.9p/litre (£3.77/gallon). I thought diesel was more expensive than petrol?

I was being lazy and using 5 litres to the gallon.
Yes I know its 4.55 litres/gallon.

Unleaded is about 82p/litre in most places.

Glad it's only £3.77 a gallon, maybe we aren't being RIPPED OFF after all :jester:

AFAIK one gallon in the US equals 3.7854 litres!

In Germany regular gas is 1.10 Euros/L which is 4.164 Euros per gallon which means 3.131$ US/gallon :swear:

diesel is at 99 euro cents per litre which is 3.747Euros/gallon and 2.80$/gallon

So fo us, energy is still dirt cheap in the US....

@ MerePeer

What about Montana?

didn't they get rid off the speedlimit during daytime?

And also the autobahn is so full today that you don't have much chance to really speed up and there are some many people you could :swear: whp won't let you pass...

But 250km/h or a 155mph rock on a GSX-R 600 :smoking:

You guys should come to Florida. No state taxes, no vehicle stickers. Not sure how much the bills are, I live with my mom but all in all it's not too bad down here. It slides between $1.80 and $2.00 a gallon for regular.

Cost of living in Florida is really nice. I just wish we didn't have to deal with the Hurricane's. I am still doing repairs from Ivan.

Yeh but they can be fun when they don't cause any damage.

Montana rules from here (http://www.mdt.state.mt.us/mcs/handbook/frame5.html) :

All other vehicles

Daytime
Interstate 75 mph (120 km/hr) or as posted
All other Roads 70 mph (112 km/hr) or as posted

And don't forget the all-encompassing "shall operate a vehicle in a careful and prudent manner" clause.

Don't think I'll be Movin to Montana soon. YiPiTiYoTyAy...

It costs me an average of about $5.00 a month per computer. I have four comps running 24/7.

I can vouch for that. I came from a state with earthquakes (California) to a state with hurricanes (Georgia). Last year was bad. We went through 4 (I think) of them.

As far as being fun..I guess it depends on how you look at it. ;) They aren't that much fun when you are in their way. My folks house was destroyed by Frances.

But, I look at it this way. At least you can see the hurricanes coming. Not so with earthquakes.
