pop that link into Altavista's babelfish translator and translate from Dutch to English.
It's like reading something Yoda wrote because Babelfish isn't good about grammar. :)
"FaD we gain fast and double easily project when done." or something like that was in the translation. It just makes the banner that says "Fellowship of the Cows" all that much better. :)

Is it considered OK for [DPC]Frentik to have his signature on -our- forum be a promotion to join his team followed by Fozzie getting chased by cows? I dunno if anyone else seems offended by this, but I don't think it's right to cross-promote like that...

No, no one but you seems to be bothered by it. There aren't many Free-DCers he could recruit. Actually, I can't think of anyone here that would want to turn into a cow....
WE asked him to make that animation, and PCZ even provided the Fozzie bear....
BTW PCZ - I just noticed the little saying under your avatar :D
Actually I asked for a brown bear, IB supplied it I think. :)

Well I *was* going to transition a bunch of boxen over to RC-5 after I hit my SOB goal. Now I'm thinking it might have to be FaD instead.... AMD best for FaD? Intel boxes do ok?
AMD's are good so are P4's with HT.

Knock down RC5-72 for awhile w/ your Intel boxen. The AMDs put on FaD. Then after you're satisfied with RC5-72, jump all to FaD.

I wonder if DPC will rustle up that 1000 head herd we saw in DF.
If they can we better start hitting some serious WUs.
They only last a couple of weeks though these stampedes.
CaptainMooseInc
04-11-2005, 03:14 AM
1000 CPUs @ 4,000points/day = 400,000 points/day
400,000 points/day * 14 days = 5,600,000 points
Ehh...that would put them in....maybe 9th place???
So the best they're going to do with this thing is maybe 8th or 7th place???....

1000 members not CPUs
Some of them do have significant pharms too.
Also a couple of weeks can turn into a couple of months, or they set themselves a target such as number 1 in the project.
It will, hopefully, be quite a fight. One that I hope Free DC will participate in strongly.
As PCZ said though they have to bring it and not just sing it.
CaptainMooseInc
04-11-2005, 03:27 AM
I was saying 1000CPUs because I don't think they'll get 1000 members. I think they'll get around 500-700 and even with the pharms they'll only get up to 1000 processors....
If an attack comes and Free-DC is threatened I'll pull back from SoB and add pointage to FaD...
Right now I'm loving SoB too much.
I don't want to be picky here but
1000 x 4000 = 4,000,000
Thats more than the Russians produce !
rsbriggs
04-11-2005, 08:39 AM
A stampede like that *could* net them as much as 12-15 million per day - I think their overall average is somewhere around 3-4 CPUs/member. They have lots of members with just 1 CPU, but also have lots of members with 10+.
A full, month long stampede with participation from their "head bulls" could see them move ahead of us. Don't underestimate the power of a whole herd of cows all running in one direction - their stampedes are capable of being quite amazing if they can manage big participation...
The good news is, I doubt that they can pull off something that big. My guess is that a stampede might get them to 5th place or so...

So when FDC has a BBQ, do you prefer charcoal or propane? I've always been a fan of charcoal. However, real world studies have shown that tactical nuclear bombs (large dumps and other chicanery) are just as effective with this sort of cow.
This should be fun to watch, and great for the project!

Great to see you guys can post in Dutch as well. Let's see what I can translate from Dutch

Does it make any sense?

"If we will stamp then we be not to keep!" About as close as I can figure it.
Probably "If we stomp them, won't we be able to maintain the lead? (Or "we won't not be able to keep the lead!" )
My answer to that would be "Uw idee van het stampen van ons komt slechts in uw dromen." (Roughly translates to ... Stomping us? Only in your dreams....)

You don't have to translate this sentence to English, the translation it just above it :p.
"als wij gaan stampen dan zijn wij niet te houden!" means: "If we will pound then are we not to hold! "

Hi, rsbriggs. Just call me Lurky.
With the new line of work (commercial photography), I haven't had a lot of time to chat. I do try to keep up, sorta. Still got a mini-pharm here, well, more like a micro-pharm.
Gawd, how I LOVE not living in Cubeland, anymore. Being out of the corporate computing biz is the best thing that's happened to me in years. Seriously. Shoulda got out sooner. I'm out of the box, meeting people, selling, and of course, photographing. Now if I could just figure out how to get some money for having all this fun! :jester:
Good to see you back in it. How's tricks?
rsbriggs
04-13-2005, 04:22 PM
Tricks? Well, let's see. I'm still in cubeland. Spent three weeks in December teaching 30+ programmers over in Bangalore, India all about the product. Figured I was going to be out-sourced, AGAIN. Came back and they had even a bigger surprise - as of April 1st, the whole OFFICE (developers, QC, Pharmacists, business analysists, management - the whole works) was being outsourced and downsized.
Start a 6 month contracting job on April 18th - Unix and 'C', mostly TCP sockets and sendmail interfacing. Keeps the mortgage paid and the car payment made... Should be Solaris 8.0 certified system admin by early May - hoping to make a change of career path. Quite frankly, I'm getting too old for this outsourcing/downsizing crap.
Still pharming, computer count back up to 12 PCs, 4 UltraSparc 10's which I haven't gotten around to running anything on yet. Enough parts laying around to build up maybe 10 dual Xeon boxen - don't have the time or energy to do so right at the moment. But I will put together a couple for the Barbeque in June.
Yum! Dutch Barbeque! Dutch Oven! Yum!
Here Cow! Nice Cow! Dinner Time!
(This is not me... I'm older and better looking... And I have a beard...)
Getting the barbie ready to fire up....

In the US, after you slaughter a cow, you cook it.
It's called a barbeque....
It means that we will fight your stampede.
I guess you just really don't understand cowboys....
Yes, but a Dutch Power Cow is not just an ordinary american cow :smoking:
Over here we don't have any cowboys left because because the original Duch Power Cow got smarter and smarter and faster and faster, so after a while it was impossible to catch a Dutch Power Cow :moon:
We even tried it with some imported american cowboys, but they too couldn't catch one and thus had to look for other jobs (or go back to the States catching them easy american cows) :rotfl:
Therefore I think you better keep your barbeques out of the way and use them for some american cows

And MerePeer had pulled another beerbottle of the Middle-sized Cow out of its mouth.....
Friendly als we Los Alcoholicos are, we want to say thanks for your kind hospitality and give you someting to drink that matches your 'coolness' and attitude. Don't get your hopes up for a good steak...a vegetarian happymeal is more Free-DC worthy!
Here is something to wash that down...

of Cow pressure to endure.
I reckon we may see them gain at 5 mill a day. Which means they will be all over us in about a month.
This is unless we can swing in some serious reinforcements.
Looks like MrMr has some issues with the client so that could ease the pressure a bit.

:moon: If you take a look in here (http://specs.tweak.to/3850), you can see what MrMr used to use when he was active at Distributed Folding. In there you can also see the problem for the client, which isn't available for SGI Irix...
About those members: a lot of them just signed up, but aren't crunching yet, waiting for the stampede to start. Wonder what that's gonna do to the output :D

You'd better watch out because when it's proven that our topspammer is over the age of 13 :bonk: he'll come over here and spam his guts out!!!!

Well, have it your way, but I feel the unexplainable need to let you know that, during a Stampede, the Dutch Power Cows suffer from a temporary kind of Mad Cow Disease :cow:  :neener:
So, even in the improbable case of not getting trampled on, and in an even more improbable case of catching an very old and sick cow, it still will give you a terrible case of diarrhoea, and thus I think it's better to get out of the way if you spot us in your rearview mirror :help:
But, it's not my life you're playing with :harhar:

Ah I see, so we have to read this entire topic the KWSN way, so we have to read everything you say and interprete it just the other way around.
Hmm I always thought you were going to be trampelled by us cows :spank:
One of our fastest members, and also a member of the DPCIS (TurboKoe), spotted a bear in Bristol which could be a twin of Fozzie :cow:
If not one wonders who else it could be :smoking:

Certainly is a good job that we are already on our way to find a cure for the Mad cows.
