Guys, I have a 4 port manual KVM switch that I'm using for my main box, and crunchers.I realized I'm not going to have any ports for the new cruncher, so I ordered another 4 port manual KVM switch.Does anyone know if I'm going to be able to daisy chain these things?

It depends on whether your KVM switch is able to support daisy support. I know of some 8 port ones that have a specific daisy chain port to provide that capability. Maybe you should give us your make and model of your KVM and we'll check it out.
Also, if you are running Windows, you can use Remote Desktop to remotely manage all your machine instead of using the KVM.
or VNC (http://www.realvnc.com/) ....

ARRGH - hate the escape key clearing out the text :bang:
I DID IT AGAIN.
I hate the escape key clearing out the text - I'm so used to jumping out to command mode in vi with it, I've had to type this message 5 times now.
The short answer - install tight VNC server on all your Windows boxes and control them from a central machine.
The bigger KVMs can be chained, but require a special cable-per-port, and that can cost you more than the KVM originally costed.
These days, I control my boxen from a laptop in the den. If I need to walk out to the computer room, I can hook the KVM up to any machine that is being cranky. I don't need to have all the boxen hooked up unless I'm debugging the hardware. Actually, I don't have any of the boxen hooked up thexe days - the 4 and 8 port KVMs are only hooked up if I need to work on a particular box and I don't feel like taking it out of the rack and moving it over to the workbench.

O.K., here's the KVM that I useKVM (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10103&cs_id=1010301&p_id=220&seq=1&format=2&style=) I used VNC for awhile but it kept giving me problems, so I went to the KVM.I run W2K, so how do I install that remote desktop thing?

Is there a way to turn off escape so it doesn't clear all my text entry when I hit it ??? :bang: :bang:
Try this on one box. It gets very easy after you've done it a couple of times.
Google for tight-vnc, and download it to a network drive.
Install it - check the boxes for install as a service and start the service. When it starts up, it will force you to enter a password for connection. "a" is good for lazy people....4j
Go to control panel -> manage firewall and open an exception for port 5900 TCP - or that might just be for XP...kkO
Install on machine that you will use to manage everything else - checking the server box is optional. Use one of the viewers to connect to your first machine by entering its IP. Enter the password. You should be remote controlling the second machine if everything went OK. ZZ
Grrrr. THIS. IS. NOT. A. VI. SESSION.

I'm not sure I follow you? Are you on linux doing this? In firefox ?
escape does nothing for me here, which is just as well, because I work in vi all day long :)
