OK I know games are wasted cycles but hey everyone wants to unwind every once in a while.

Here's the problem

I was running

XP2600
M848A
Geforce 3 TI
XP SP2

and everything was running sweet(ish) with all sorts of games that I tried

Now running
XP3200
M848A (newer board)
Radeon 9550 Geforce burnt out
2003 Server Corp edition

Now everything fires up fine and runs but then it all just locks up. No CTR ALT DEL and I have to hard reset.

I though it might be PSU so I bought one with 23A on 12V rail and that should be sufficient.

DirectX diags shows everything is fine.

Stumped, again and there is a LAN party coming up.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Are you recording your system temps?

The other thing is I would not recommend running Server 2003 for gaming, the drivers etc are not going to cut it compared to the XP versions... especially from Ati whose drivers tend to take a while to come good...

Remove/Install video card driver.
If that doesn't fix it, dump the video card.

only install the graphics card drivers that came with the card, don't use any from M$ update. :D

Go to your card configuration (performance) and reduce the hardware acceleration and turn off that writting thing ( I don't know how it is written in english). That should fix your problem.

and it's the same, I've upgraded the PSU and it's the same.

Tried new Catalyst drivers and , you've guessed it , the same.

I'll try your suggestion Carlos.

Make sure it is actually the video card that is the problem.

Run the FSB lower say 166mhz, and run 3dmark in looping mode overnight.
Keep the memory ratio at 1:1
If it runs without locking up you will know it's not your video card.

Of course this will mean that your CPU, chipset or memory aren't happy with a 200mhz FSB

If it does lock up then you will need to reduce the core and memory clocks of your video card.
