1. Download the tarball at: http://www.find-a-drug.org/fadv125g.tgz

2. Untar.

3. ./fadsetup -nickname "your username" -email "the email you used" -team "2020" - country "country you are located" -connect "depend on your connection"

4. Once you put everything in, check it by typing in this command ./fadsetup -list

Thanks PY 222.
Do I have to know anything else? Running 2 instances, control the client, see progress, etc

Assuming if you have a dual procesor machine or a P4 with HT machine, you can add this command

./fadsetup -copies "2"

If you have a dual Xeon with HT, you can add this:

./fadsetup -copies "4"

As for progress, I check on the server list by running this command:

./server -list

It will show you what job you are running, at what percentage, with how many hits, etc. Also, it you have submitted jobs, it will show uploaded.

Use the linux FADProgressd to monitor things from a central location. I use my laptop to monitor all FaD nodes, be they Windoze or Linux, when I'm running it.

All the nodes (including the laptop) send progress reports to my laptops IP.

Wow... I didn't know about the FADProgress utility. Thanks for the heads up. I'll look in to it.

So how do you tell it to manually download more work? ./fadsetup -fetch ? In other words, on my duallie, I usually like to download 20 to 30 WU's at a time. How would I do that? One other thing, say you only want to run cancer jobs, how do you specify that?

Wizzard~Of~Ozz

killall server
./server -receive 20

I believe the 20 will download 20 jobs, or you might just have to do that 20 times..

One other thing, say you only want to run cancer jobs, how do you specify that?

To turn projects on or off, put the plus or minus sign in front of their name
./fadsetup -projects +Cancer
./fadsetup -projects -Cancer

Always confirm this worked by doing a ./fadsetup -list

You can do more than one on a line, but I dont think there is a way to turn them all off or on, and I believe you must keep the Methodology project turned on.

What Wizzard~Of~Ozz and MerePeer said.

Also, you can check out the list of commands:

./fadsetup -help

or

./server -help

It will have a description of what each option does.

2. Untar.

O.K., I think that is what I did when I installed RC5 on it, but don't remember the command, so please tell me how to do it again, keeping in mind you're talking to someone who hasn't even been using Linux a week, yet.I remeber it was done in xterm!:rotfl:

n7vxj,

If you go to my stats page, there is a script generator on the left, it will post instructions and a script to download the client, untar it, set your configuration up etc.. might make it a bit easier for you

The only part I haven't included is getting it to start on re-boot..

Wizzard~Of~Ozz,

I don't like the portuguese translation. I think it was made by a member called Carlos Pfitzner and its more like a Brazilian one. Sometimes they write words in a different way than us. This is not a critic. For example sometimes they use old words that we don't use anymore and they are considered as the most correct ones or as we call the old good portuguese.

em99010pepe,

Interesting, I've been learning a lot about variations in languages, this sounds similar to "Quebec French vs France French", it's said Quebec's french is a more gutteral or slang version..

If you would be willing to update the translation, I'll gladly seperate Brazillian and Portugese, Or you can select English as your language.. (Customize Option on left you can set your language..)

Thanks for the feedback tho. If you are interested send me an Email @ support at fadstats.com

Wo0, Thanks for the information about the script generator, but I really want to learn how to use Linux, and the only way I can learn it, is learning how to do this stuff. It's gonna take a lot of work, and :swear: , after being a Windoz junkie all these years, but I'm determined I'm gonna do it this time!!!

I was reading the FAD forums the other day, and found some discussion of jobs that were marked as "able to be worked on" on the server, but were actually finished. Intermingled in that thread were some references to people running just one project (and not Methodology), when there were no jobs available for that project. Basically, their machines were sitting unused.

It sounds like there will always be a couple of jobs available for the Methodology project (to improve the client?). And we don't want anyone's machine(s) to be sitting unused, right? ;)

Cool, it's running again!! Thanks Bok!! Now if I can figure out how to do fadinfo, or whatever it's called, I'll be good!!I downloaded it untarred it, and went to run it, and it gave me some weird error message, and I didn't have a clue what it was talking about!!Did I need to install it in my fad directory, or something?

Bok

Probably, I've not used it myself though..

you can always just run ./server -list

and it shows you current progress..

Two things you need to do to get that script to work. Open fadinfo in a text editor, then edit the line below:
# Replace this with your fad directory.
# If you don't know where it is located, try: find / -name think
cd /home/find-a-drug/

Then just 'sh fadinfo' and it should run.

Get out of my thread!

The potencial of the sub-team is something of 30,000 members. We already have a nick.
I am preparing the translation of that linux tutorial.

Thank you guys for helping me.

I have two running 24/7 and another one will be added later.
From 22 to 25 of May I thought my father's machine was running RC5-72 but instead it was crunching for FAD in hidden mode! Can't remember what I did so I have to find out again how I installed FAD on it!
