I have used the linux DIMES alpha, and it appears to work, after some of with the properties.xml file.
As a guide, look at the properties.xml file that exists with the windows version, and use the servers listed there, as the default preferences.xml file uses development servers. All server paths should start with http://www.netdimes.org/DIMES/
Also, you'll have to set the directories that you have DIMES in, eg /DIMES_linux/DevelopmentAgent/, /DIMES_linux/DevelopmentAgent/resources and so on. Use the default ones in the properties file, you'll probably just have to change the first part.
Lastly, make sure that the <registered> field in <state> near the end of the file is set to false, which will bring up the screen allowing you to register or to add a new agent. if this isnt set to false initially, you'll just keep getting null responses from the server.
Good Luck!
