View Full Version : Test expire time
Could Louie, Dave, Mike or whomever extend the test expire time.
As far as I can tell secondpass is expire is set to 24 hours.
This made alot of sence when test when n<1M, but currently?
I suggest increasing this to at least one week, perhaps more so this doesn't come up again. I wouldn't be against 1 month for these tests.
Also firstpass was extented some time back perhaps this time should be reconsidered?

Louie, Dave, Mike or whomever ,
Does extending the time on second pass affects the project in general or is it because you all on a time crunch and can't get to it.
Jason,
What happens to my second pass unit which I have completed but was 24 hrs too late cuz of network problem. Do I still get credit? Triple check with other previously done work units or does it just go to nowhere land?
If it does not affect the project significantly, a little time increase would be nice. Can we get it? Can we? Can we? Huh? Can we?

I think the main issue is if you shut down your machine for a weekend the test will be resassigned. So basically when you comeback monday and finish the test would have been a tripple.
Currently this isn't too much of a problem but once we start to approach 3M then we start loosing effort.

No Jason, I just don't like doing work and not getting credit for it when it could be avoided. If my ISP happens to go down with a major problem, is that mean my herd's work will go for nothing. I don't foresee a 168 hrs by an ISP but a 24 hrs is possible.
The question is, is it really necessary to do the duplicate work. Just a simple question.

Yes I believe it is worth doing secondpass.
and
Yes you always get credit for the tests you return to the server as far I know.

Already taken care of. On 6/19 I removed the seperate expiration time for secondpass tests. All tests now have 1 month expiration.
Cheers,
Louie

That's very good news
However, there is a new situation in the stats:
Right now, there have been 80 tests finished in the last 24 hours in firstpass. In dropped-tests, 96 tests were finished.
Usually, firstpass had a lot more tests finished compared to dropped-tests (about 2-3x).
So, what happened?
I assume that the time it takes for the average user to finish a test now is slightly more than 1 month, which would explain why so many tests are reassigned.
If so, would it make sense to adjust (increase) the time for firstpass, too?

Actually, the one month deadline is for submitting a single block and not the whole test result (or at least, was like that a while ago...Louie or someone else could verify this still applies)
IMHO, a computer that cannot submit a single block in a month shouldn't be involved with SoB at all, let alone do first pass tests
