I'm quite a way north of London so this was nowhere near me.
The details of the "explosions" are very sketchy, but our prime minister Tony Blair just said that he thinks these are definitely terrorist attacks. There have been confirmations of a few fatalities and loads of injuries.

Nothing like Madrid thankfully though. Looks like somebody wanted to make a show of "bombs" rather than kill people.

It seems the objective here could have been to disrupt the G8 meeting today.

I don't think so. All countries that support US on Iraq War are being hit by terrorist attacks. Next ones will be Italy, Portugal, Poland, etc.

I don't usually post on political views but that's a very blinkered view, these are Terrorists
Do you really think that if the US had not invaded Iraq, then, presuming it's Islamic Fundamentalists as claimed, they would have given up their causes by now and started to get on with the western world ?
I think not.

Latest news indicates 3 explosions underground and one above ground on a double decker bus which blew the roof off.
33 dead confirmed plus an unknown number on the bus and about 130 serious injuries with upwards of 300 less serious.
Central London and all Underground still closed off but mainline stations all open except Kings Cross where the most serious damage was which includes a passenger bridge on the underground station which collapsed.
This attack was a terrorist outrage and has been claimed by an unknown Al Quaeda group but not confirmed yet and the emergency plan for just this kind of attack (Cobra) has been put into effect and is working well. It was expected but as usual, is not the kind of thing that`s easily preventable.
This kind of terrorism will never succeed in accomplishing anything except to bring the world together against it`s proponents and unfortunately, as usual, it was ordinary people who suffered the brunt of it and not the better protected government and military targets.
These people are simply brutal, uncaring and ungodly and have no real cause or purpose and should be dealt with in the same manner and given the contempt they deserve.

Public beheading comes to mind as appropriate for these types, but using something more civilized than a pocket knife to perform it - say a guillotine, perhaps. Or not. :swear:
Regardless of how you want to argue the point that they have a cause or not, or that this is somehow religiously "justified" or not, this is mass murder, plain and simple, being performed by evil people.

Read my views on it Here (http://gophers-spot.blogspot.com/2005/07/london-calling.html) my blogger view...
Got a few friends in London they are okay thankfully..
I only heard bits of it, as I was stuck some place with no Radio / TV - I was stuck in a gatehouse maning a gate at work due to our customer wanting us to do that, instead of what we normally do which is actually no different to having man on gate.. and a darn sight LESS BORING!...

Regardless of the who's or why's...it's simply sad.
My thoughts go out to the families of those loved ones that have been killed or injured.

My feelings to the victims, their families and friends.
Surely SAS will give an appropriate answer to the terrorists.
