Hi everyone,

Apologies for the comatose state of DHEP for the last month.

I'm happy to say I'm finally back and will be taking care of it again.

 Miguel

HOORAY!!!
I became a fan of this project by reading some reviews. Unfortunately, it wasn't running at the time.

I've got some other commitments at the moment, but I'll be ready for DHEP in about 2-3 weeks.

Excellent news! Keeping my fingers crossed for the future.

Andrew

Don't get too excited yet.. It was running today, but it absolutely killed the server. Load average was up in the mid 30's.... so I just killed it.

We'll try and work something out..

Where exactly is the source for the server software? It seems that it would be a nice project to see if its stability can be increased and the required CPU cycles decreased somewhat. I'd be willing to have a peak at the source...

So guys,

What's the score? :Pokes:

I think we're waiting on some behind the scenes stuff. I accidentally insulted a guy in another project because I thought lack of updates meant lack of progress. I didn't offend him, but I felt bad about my comment.

We are waiting on me deciding whether I give up one of my home boxen to run the project for Miguel from here. With an impending baby on the way and work gettign in the way I haven't really had time to get a box ready :(

@Jasong,
You are quite right; patience is a virtue. Sorry if I sounded rather short in my last post. Of course now Miguel's PhD is over, I understand this is run on a voluntary basis- both client and server end :)

@Bok,
Congratulations on your 'impending baby'!
I've also recently had the good (and surprising!) news that I'm an expectant father. Alas, crunching comes second- and I'm going to have to start selling off my boxen.
I didn't realise the server load was actually so high- I just assumed this was a freak problem. Wow, not suprised there were issues when it was hosted at Surrey Uni. Hope you find a solution / time / hardware (delete as appropriate).

Best of luck for the future,
Cheers,
Andrew

I just wonder... Maybe we should start to look for volunteer hosters that have more time/hardw/etc resources than Bok now?

Even in a case that Bok's server will become active soon, it seems to be good to have some sort of secondary/backup host.

I thought this project was going to become active again?

Was it just a corpse twitch?

Are you volunteering to host it ? :moon:

I've got a machine that I can help host this server on.

To the Admin of this project, please send me a PM and we can talk.

We (Bok and I) have all the code, on a dedicated Dual Intel Xeon emt64 3.6 GHZ Server with 1/2 TB of Raid storage. The code is broken, Miguel hasn't stepped up to the plate to fix it... that is all... It's pure java based ...

IB,

Miguel did fix it on this server, but it caused the server load to go through the roof, i.e. > 20 !!!

Way too many java processes running. It basically brought the server to it's knees and I had to kill it.

I did say I could get it running again at home on a machine (possibly the DX), just haven't got the time or inclination right now..

I remember that part now, but, it never did that when it was here, so I assumed the code had to be broken to cause something that was running normally, to all of a sudden suck the life out of it like that... (being the exact same box just in a different location)
I'll shut up now :jester:

I'm ready for this to start back up again.

I'm ready to go out and tell people I have my own island. :D

miguelgarvie hasn't been here since 9-11-2005.
Tell it to the hand or send him an email.
It's dead, nothing to see here, move along...
We really should move this to retired and be done with it.

Hmmm, done ;)

I used the DHEP website to send him a polite email. Whether the project starts back up or not, I hope it doesn't end up like Find-a-Drug, where they came up with absolutely fantastic results, but nobody was interested in applying them.
