    Server memory upgrade ordered

Should be in the next 24 hours so you'll notice the machine down briefly..

    Bok

*EDIT* In anticipation, I've switched off all the stats updates, just because I don't want the server rebooted in the middle up an update.

You still want the $10 I promised?

Or, I guess a better question would be:"Did you come up with any of the money yourself, because volunteering your time gives you the right to ask users to pay for the RAM themselves."

they haven't completed it yet...hopefully today, otherwise I'll give them a call..

I'm running some of the stats manually, periodically.

    Memory added. 1Gb -> 3Gb now

For some reason, apache didn't restart, nor mysql. Restarted them now..

Rosetta stats have been running and it's using 2.3Gb of 3Gb and the forum is pretty responsive for me at least, so it looks like it has solved the issue as expected!!

    Thanks for the donations guys!

There is a slight backlog whilst it catches up with all the stats, but it doesn't seem too noticeable...

i.e. right now it's running stats for Boinc climate prediction, Einstein, Primegrid as well as the ppstats for the RC5 proxy as well as the DCR stats. That alls should never happen again

Haven't decided yet. They still take way too long. Coincidentally, I've just refreshed them from my dev box which does run them every day.

With desktops now heading through an average of better than 1Gb ram due to al the bloatware around, it`s nice to see a server just coping with, never mind handling, all that work for so long.
Well done Bok on a very good service to the community and the server now does seem a good bit more responsive even on this side of the pond.
And my typing is improving now I can actually sit up a bit and anybody ever get offered high oxygen therapy, please take it, as it really does speed up the healing enormously. Pity it didn`t stop the infection on the last stitching job tho` (under control now) which meant an extra trip into OR. Man I`ve seen too much of those places recently.
Now all I need is to reconfig my main machine with some more memory to cope with UVNC server taking out all the necessary processes every time I log into home . That`s do able tho`, just too lazy feeling just now .
Great job Bok, we should be the envy of the stats world now.
Like an ol` 8086, slow but serviceable.

The board has seemed to be a bit slow over the past week to 10 days
Do we need to bump it up to 4 G's now to cope with all the new projects and teams. ?
Or does it just need a new X2 to keep up the increased pace

What are the mem usage Now?

I've not really noticed any slowdown. Memory usage is holding up ok. Adding new projects is not really an issue. Doing the hosts for Rosetta is still by far the most memory intensive task it the server does and it does not hit 3Gb at that point yet. It's possible there are some memory hungry sql calls being performed in php. I'm in the process of optimizing a lot of them.

I could possibly put it up to 4Gb, but an X2 is not really an option. This is a machine at Servermatrix Next good option there is at $199 per month for a dual core intel 950 but that's quite a step up in funding compared to the $129 I'm paying now..

OK let me ask can you split the load between to Web servers?
    Like Free-DC and Laurensnet.com I could name it Free-DC2
That way you get 2 CPU's and no extra cost

Way too much pain to do that.. If I were going down that route I would just run it all from home and have multiple servers doing it, but the whole point is that it's in a datacentre, secure with dedicated 99.9% uptime and availability.

In the last almost 3 years since I've been running it there, we've had less than 10 minutes of unscheduled downtime due to the server itself or the connection..

The real best option would be to have a seperate server at servermatrix to just run the forum. If they offer a $49 per month celeron again, then perhaps I'll look into it..

OK just thought I would offer
And any slow downs are sporadic at most anyway
    Like you said Rosetta Updates

  27. #27
Yeah I have experienced zero slowdown on the boards and I'm on them ~10 times/day.
