    No Autoupdate With Proxy

All my workplace boxen use the proxy.cfg thing to get around the occasionally unfriendly corporate firewall. None of them autoupdated in the Aug. 13 changeover. I even manually stopped & restarted a couple of them to see if they were just being lazy, or what. Then, just on a whim, I removed the proxy file on one & fired it back up. Voila! Instant update. (The firewall was in a cooperative mood at the time.)

Involved were boxen running Win2K, service and not, and two Linux boxen. FWIW.

This is because you are using a caching proxy. If you are patient it will eventually go 'stale' and recognize that an update is available.

Ahah! Well, I'm not that patient, so I forced 'em anyway. But it is good to know that in the fullness of time (whatever THAT may mean) that it would have been resolved.

    Thanks.
