    linux command help

I've had some serious power problems at the house and think computers shutting down uncleanly has screwed up my mouse support, so no using graphical interface. One box has been running df from text level, run level 3. With the -if switch in foldit.

I just tried vi -w /distribfold/foldit to edit the file so i can upload.
Been using nano -w on another box installing gentoo.
any way the box with problem is mandrake and when i tried vi it said 'could not open for script output'

help please on how to edit this.

I think you don't need the -w switch; try vi <filename>

Been so long since i used vi, I may be wrong

personally I'd try to urpmi nano and then you'd have your editor back

System was really screwed up. I reinstalled os - keeping present filesystem, so I was able to access old distribfold folder.

    thanks for replies!
