Haven't heard anything about CB in a month now... just wondering if anybody else has heard anything?
Nothing heard 'til now...
I'd like to know too if there's anything new I don't know yet.
Maybe it's :sleepy: again...
Isn't there any beta-testing running right now? Or am I wrong? I thought there were some selected users who Carlos wrote to? Or maybe I was dreaming :D
:umm: It's got a new name and a new look :(
http://www.chessbrain.net
I sent an email... :sleepy:
Yeah, I ran the software for a month or so but it wasn't really doing anything except communicating. I didn't have any problems with it and wrote Carlos to just let him know. Last I knew they were going to be working hard on the client... but it's been very quiet since then. :shrug:Quote:

I already know the new look at www.chessbrain.net, it's since two months or so?
So there was only communication testing between clients and servers and the "proxies" between? Did you only test the clients or did you test those "proxies" too (for those who have large amounts of machines you should be able to set up a proxy like at distributed.net with their personal proxy server)?
Got a reply from Carlos

Fair enough. I wish I could say that what we're trying to do with ChessBrain II is easy. Because the effort is completely devoid of monetary compensation our full time jobs often interfere with our ability to devote the time required to make rapid progress. That said we remain committed to the project despite all obstacles.
Currently we're preparing for a presentation at the 2006 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Games.
Our feeling is that ChessBrain II will be worth the wait, otherwise we wouldn't even bother working on it. Personally I think it will become the most exciting DC project ever to be offered to the DC community. The reason for this is because it will enable DC groups to administer their own virtual supercomputers.
Still your point is well taken... this is all talk until something tangible surfaces... I think we often forget that the excitement we have in what we're doing isn't visible to others and that the view from the outside is quite different from the view we have while continuing to work on the project.
All that said... our new target has become to launch before end of year (because that's when we need to gather real data for the presentation at IEEE CIG 2006) and to be fully operational by March 2006 (because our demo at IEEE GIG 2006 is in May). This will put us in line for a 2008 World Record attempt in January 2007 in Copenhagen.
I'd say we're not without vision... it's just that our vision is years in the making. Deep Blue was a 15 year project - we're in this for the long haul.
Feel free to share (or not!) what I've written in this email with others, personally and/or online via message boards.
Lastly, thanks for the nudge, we get emails like yours from time to time, and it's reassuring that others care enough to drop a note and express interest in the project. In part, it's what keeps us going!

"Trust me, it'll be cool when it happens." just isn't cutting it for me. Unless it really is the neatest thing on the net when it comes out, it ain't going on my boxes. Ever.
Two months later...
Any news about chessbrain?
Two days ago I received an email from Carlos Justiniano. I won't quote him but I can tell you that it's getting difficult to put out the client.
I noticed he was very sad.
Carlos
That makes me sad too. :(
Chessbrain was a nice side project to run while running DF or d.net...
Did he say what kind of problems they are having with the client?
Kind regards to Carlos Justiniano!
Hopefully we can :beep: some games with the new client soon :D
I miss Chessbrain.......
Today, i got a totalle different email!

Hello friends,
The ChessBrain II server is in need of testing... and you can help simply by using your web browser!
We've written an AJAX enabled web page that communicates with the ChessBrain II server.
Visit the main site for more info: http://www.chessbrain.net
Please help spread the word, the more people we can get the try the new web based test the sooner we can resolve any outstanding issues.
- CJ
The ChessBrain II server hosted at distributedchess.net is available for testing and you can help! You can help us test the new server using your computer's web browser. Point your browser to the link below and allow it to run for as long as you can. The page will automatically update every five seconds causing your browser to send a request to the ChessBrain server. The page updates by displaying a stored game and the current server statistics. http://www.distributedchess.net/test/index.html
Load the page on as many machines as you legally have access to. Spread the word, we need all the help we can get!!
TIP: As an option, Microsoft Windows users can use Active Desktop to run the link above on their desktop. This ensures that test will run uninterrupted each time you start your computer.
I just tried that link and got this: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.distributedchess.net.
Same here, no go on FF or IE.
Maybe its broken.
It seems to be working at the moment, although, if I'm reading correctly, it's only been up for about 12 minutes.
:woot:
using ie7b2 i have 7 tabbed browers open accessing the site. my accepted connections jumps about 400-800 every 5 seconds. I hope this helps them some.
My iexplore.exe process is holding around 168MB of memory usage so I'm gonna leave it up the rest of the night and see if I can't make it get to like 500MB. :)
I have Mozilla with 11 tabbed browers open accessing the site. Only 13MB of memory usage. Hehe
Carlos
Ok, I just had to give IE7b2 a shot... ;)
I have 11 tabs of chessbrain running consuming 71mb of ram after about ~12 hours.
why does mine have such a bad memory leak?!
I wish Firefox would work on my computer. Stupid Firefox...not liking me and all. Oh well I've tried too many times with too many people, including the Mozilla crew, to get it to work right...
-Jeff
Well, you know the routine...
What's the specs on the rig and os you are using?
btw, the new IE browser looks terrible, but functional I suppose /sticks with Firefox
AMD Sempron 2800
512 DDR ram
160gb seagate hdd
winxp pro w/ sp2
symantec antivirues corporate
zonealarm pro firewall
Which mobo?
Which memory? One or two sticks? Which Dimm slot(s) are they in?
Are you overclocking?
What are your voltages?
What are your temps?

it's not a problem w/ the computer freezing or anything. :smoking:
It's that when I load up Firefox it "fails to intialize browers security component". The fix for it is supposedly to give that folder full permissions (per Mozilla's feedback). There are no restrictions because I am forever and always logged onto Admin account. There are no restrictions on any of my folders at all and they should be able to do whatever they want. I've tried the workaround provided for ZoneAlarm and to no avail.
After the browser displays that error message you can visit about 2 webpages but once you hit one you have to log into you crash and BURN! Tried uninstalling, restarting computer, reinstalling, etc etc etc...nada
I've been through like 15 different fixes from Mozilla and they can't get the Fox to be sly on my system.
:(

I want CB(or LifeMapper) back...
I'm never going to let this thread die... :D... anybody hear anything yet? I'm really wanting to donate some cycles here.
I didn't hear anything new on chessbrain, sorry...
I'd also like to put some cpu cycles into this project again!
Carlos, how are you?
Shot a quick email off to him...

It would be nice if they could get the project off the ground again.
Been around from time to time. ;) With a 5yr old and a 7yr old there's just not enough time in the day. :coffee:Quote:
