Is this optimal

I was just wondering if i was getting optimum speed out of my computer or if there was a better setup.

I am currently running Proth sieve 42 with sse2. i also use sobistrator.

i am getting about 640 kp/s.

The hardware is an athlon 64 3200 (2000MHZ), asus k8v delux motherboard, two 160GB sata segate harddrives in raid(mirroring), 1gig corsair memory. Running Xp Pro SP2. Hopefully not leaving out anything important.


i am open to suggestions.

Also wondering if our next challenge is 125K or 150K point factor.

Have you tried the CMOV version instead of the SSE2 version. I would be very interested in what kp/s it would produce. Higher or lower than the SSE2 version?

I'd say we can look forward to a 125K grudge match but I would think it will have less hoop-la than the 100k score it was a big one.

I'd say the next biggie will be a 200k and yes it's not that far off. Check out my predictions for the 200k score in the 100k post. Just keep it in mind...

I too would be very interested in your rate for the proth cmov, I actually wouldn't have thought of running sse2 version on that processor....

Results for both versions are good but not impressive IMHO.

Averaging 637,5 kp/s in this randomly chosen part of today's running range.

I think this indicates that the Athlon 64 is kinda "underperforming" (note the quotes plz) in both cmov and sse2 versions of the client. Maybe the lower clock speed is to blame?
I suppose this chip will really show it's potential once a newer 64bit version of Proth Sieve is released. If speeds posted on another thread for the alpha version are real, it'll really shine then-for now it's just a very good performer but nothing to write home about-my one year old Barton still holds its' own very well :)

PS: I am willing to run the exact same range you posted about if you want to have 100% comparable results.

I have noticed the same thing on other projects. The athalon 64 preforms about the same as other athalons at similar clock speeds. But in projects where memory bandwidth and on die cache helps it makes a killing(aka seti classic).

I am also waiting on the new client and a 64 bit version as well.

After all it is rated at a 3200, which is pretty much comparable to the 3000. It also performs in the same general range as my 2400 Mhz Barton.

Those figures for sse2 and cmov are interesting I wouldn't have expected sse2 to be better than cmov. Looks like there are basically things to come for the 64-bit athlons.

And which 100k chart are you talking about????

I am very happy about the athlon 64. it seems only better things to come.

the chart i was wondering about is the first chart in who will be the first to 100K that nuri posted.

I'd be happy with two of those even in separate boxes ;)
It's going to be my next CPU-once the software is really ready to support it properly! Given some time, they'll be able to show more and more of their potential. Hopefully by then, the bigger babies of this range of CPUs will be down to very reasonable prices, like the 3200+ is now.

My though process, wait until they have a decent PCI-X dual or quad board, then pick up a couple of "cheap" 240's and wait until the price of the highend chips come down.
