ftp://ftp.mshri.on.ca/pub/distribfol...ldtrajlite.zip
is the latest executable.. although make sure you've got July 23, 2003, 1:09pm as the time stamp. (or later, if there's another update/patch).
from the Windows Problems thread..

Cheers for that matey.
I thought my dreams of world conquest would have to be put on hold.
Now we are ready to climb up those stats tables.
Ok, is there an old version posted somewhere still? Im pretty sure we fixed them all but if not please tell us ASAP so we can check/fix it.
I think it may be something going awry at work the download I got from home via dial-up was fine.
I didn't think stuff like downloads get cached on proxies. Does it?
Some proxies cache downloads for sure....Quote:

Cache my ass!
When I click on a link and I am connected directly to the DF FTP site and I download a file that is supposed to be new and updated but is in fact old and not updated it; it is the wrong file!
The only way currently to get the correct file is to download the complete Windows client and extract it from that zip file...
Management failed to mention this simple fact!!!
I would like to know where this alledged incorrect file IS. Please give me the exact address you are getting the incorrect file from so we can fix it if it is not just your cache.Quote:

Is this the link you are using ?
ftp://ftp.mshri.on.ca/pub/distribfol...ldtrajlite.zip
I just downloaded the zip from there and it contains the 13:09 exe which is the one you want.
It does look like you are using a caching proxie.
Brian
I'm sorry, but the 13:09 exe is the wrong .exe .....Quote:

The timestamp must be 13:43 for the .exe
Is it just me? Do I need to throw my chair through my 26th floor window and pass over to great unknown?
There has been mentioned in another thread a foldtrajlite.exe with a time stamp of 1:09 (13:09). This is the same file I get when clicking on the above link.
There is also mentioned a foldtrajlite.exe with a time stamp of 1:43 (13:43) NEWER than the one above! The newer one is contained in the Windows Client package! It is NOT in the other links!
Which one are we supposed to use?
When I click on a link and choose to save it and I stick it in a brand new freaking folder... I'm not caching anything!
From the DF News page:
See the red underline? That is the link to this file:
As seen in WinZip...
Do I need to draw a bigger picture?
I like pictures :)
BUT, you need the .exe with a time stamp of 1:43 pm to have the correct foldtrajlite.exe file.

I share your pain.
The later exe is news to me. I am using the 13:09 file on all my boxes.
I have already replaced the exe twice since the update and will not be doing it again.
I don't think the later file is required as all my nodes appear to be
working fine.
If I discover that I need to replace the exe again that will be me finished with this project.
If I remember correctly, the bug fixed by this update manifests by crashing some machines at the end of the first generation of folding. They may look good right now, but they're wasting CPU cycles on something they'll never upload.Quote:

I could be wrong.
I've been wrong before.
It felt somewhat like this....
:looney:
djp
They have manged to produce 1.5 million points since yesterday
so I guess they are working.
I cant afford any slackage from them or you will catch me with one of those enormous dumps you do.
Apparently the 1:09 and the 1:43 are binarily the SAME file.
/me shrugs and scratches head
I gave my 1:43 .exe file to someone with the 1:09 .exe file, he did a bin compare and it's an exact match...
So, looks like either will work fine :|party|:
Dunno, hope not cause someone with the 1:09 lost 70 Gens to corrupted filelst during uploading :bonk:
i have been patching with that one and it is working fineQuote:

that file works fine, what is your point?Quote:

My point is this...
Half the people here insist you need the foldtrajlite.exe time stamped 1:09PM and the other half insist you need the version time stamped 1:43PM.
Howard kind of sort of beats around the bush that the answer is found in the file time stamped 1:43PM.
All I was looking for was a definate answer from Howard. I guess I was asking too much...
Howard is on the record here suggesting 1:43PM is the answer but yet the links he posted point to a file time stamped 1:09PM.
That was the point. When management says one thing and does another... whom do you believe?
Believe anyone. Reality is subjective, anyway.
I did an md5 hash on both files:
f90866036191114371ba762e393b7315
f90866036191114371ba762e393b7315
They're exactly the same.
If you look at the zip file it puts ALL the date/times for ALL the files at 1:43, which is probably when the zip file was created (which for some reason didn't save all the attributes from the files). The zip was probably made about 30 mins later or something, using the same foldtrajlite.exe file as was linked to directly.
So you should be fine if you have the 1:09 or the 1:43.
If you have doubts, delete your directory and get the latest version (the large zip from the download page which has the files at 1:43), and get crunching again.
Howard gave a definate answer: the foldtrajlite.exe file should be 3,026,944 bytes.Quote:

He said that several times.
If your foldtrajlite.exe file is 3,026,944 bytes, then you have the correct version.
If your foldtrajlite.exe file is NOT 3,026,944 bytes, then you DON'T have the correct version.
To find out how big a file is in Windows, right click on the filename and select "properties". There should be a "Size:" line that says how big the file is in bytes.
the time stamp is irrelevent,Quote:

big == bad (~7MB)
small == good (<3MB)
so if you got the original big .exe , that is bad == sloooow
if you got either of the time stamped small .exe , that is good == fast
have a nice day! :)
The files I am getting from thye same link today are up to date.
ftp://ftp.mshri.on.ca/pub/distribfol...rent-win9x.zip
Do not identify a file by its time stamp, that is just totally unreliable. I said it once and Ill say it again, the CORRECT foldtrajlite.exe executable is 3,026,944 bytes. If yours is not exactly equal to this size, you have a broken one.
If ANY of the current links lead to a version not this size, please let us know right away...
What I meant by "up to date" is that its the right size.
No insanity here.
So who's got my talking fish
