nested exception error

What is a nested exception error? Does it mean the server is down or having problems?

the exact message I get after "trying to connect to server is as follows

java.rmi.ConnectIOException: error during JRMP connection establishment; nested exception is:
java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out

Anyone have any info???
