Yeah, I think I'll finally pick one of these up now, but it'll probably be for gaming/movies rather than DC. I'm fed up with having to pay for Xbox Live!
It sounds like it will probably be much more difficult to get Linux running on it, but I'm sure somebody will figure it out eventually.
You can not load a 2nd OS.
Yet. ;)
They lowered the price of the regular ones to, that does support dual OS.
with version 3 of the firmware of a PS3, it is not possible anymore to install a 3rd-party-OS - at least official - does anyone know if also the "fat" PS3 is affected?
No reason for the upgrade if you are using the PS3 as a cruncher :p ;)
The PS3 slim really is near silent in comparison with anything else in my bedroom. I left it crunching Folding@Home overnight the first night I got it and it didn't disturb me at all.
If anyone does find a way to get Linux on it somehow, it really would make a great cruncher.
looks like you finally got a PS3, alpha ;)
It sounds like Linux on the slim is getting closer:

Ironically, this effort was started as a result of Sony removing the "Other OS" option from the fat PS3s.
