    Ars Team to catch up

    Hi to all,

The client is no CPU intensive and you can run several instances. To do so just copy the client folder and rename the exe file, make this for each instance to run.

Register yourself and join Free-DC Team

    Download client

Just in case. From Red Library DLV project forum:

    Howdy all,

Just to re-emphasize - the client limits for the DLV project (previously 3 clients per person) are no longer in place. You can run as many clients as you like.

Note: If we see any server load issues, we may need to bring the client limits back at a later date.

    Thanks,

    Wang
    Source

Come on, lets go! Windows and Mac clients available. Currently I am running 19 clients on my home machine, tomorrow more to come.
Each client makes 120 links per hour, I'm making ~1900/hour.
And the most important, it uses less bandwidth than Majestic and Dimes, that's why I am running it.

Perhaps they shouldn't goad the PCZ

    it's ALWAYS a bad move.

Looks like we are going to be ripping them a new Ars hole.

And closing more quickly, if they don't get my credit issue resolved. My stats got frozen somewhere overnight, but the clients are still running on this end. Sent them email, but ...

    DarkStar

Similar thing happenened to myself and ELF.

We were getting maximum number of clients exceeded messages when starting up clients.

The ones that were already running appeared to be fine but no points were awarded.

Well, pooh! Guess I'll get some other projects crunching until after the daily reset, then. Thanks for the info, guys.

    Looks like Darkstar

their main producer has hit a black hole so we should overtake Ars in about 4 days time.

Keep up the pace guys we'll be number one soon enough.

... and to make matters even worse (or better, depending on your perspective), a router upstream went bad about an hour after I started up yesterday, so there went some more. Came back up this morning, but now the Red Library server seems to be down. Can't catch a break, it seems! Sure would like to see things get going so I can finally get the rest of the clients online next week...

BTW - anyone noticed the stats? Temporary glitch, or something more sinister?

    Lol

it's not the usual Ars Technica capitulation we have come to expect but bowing to the mighty Free Dc in such a way is a proper show of homage.

Extraordinary stuff... deleting your team AND all members clients due to the inevitable stompage is quite something!

You should not have been so hard on yourselves, 2nd place would not have been all that bad...

    hmmm,

not sure what happened, I'm not that mean I'll fix it...

Ah, I'm failing to get the files and 'die'ing too early in the script. The server must have timed out in the middle of a stats update, so it thinks a lot of users have disappeared, which permeates up to the team-level also. Don't worry, all it does is mark them as inactive in the DB and does not display/total them.

I'll have to do something about the timing, in the meantime we'll just have to wait until the Red Library server returns..

Spoken in true KWSN fashion - if only you'd mentioned the shrubbery!

Heh - yeah, I know how bad y'all really want to get into first place in this one, and maybe even knocking off all the other teams and users that are any threat isn't too bad - but isn't the subsequent nuking of the project server a bit much?

    Lauren

The 'official' stats are a bit off some teams are missing a few million.
    Bok's are more accurate.

Agree though we are almost there

Everyone get on board for the last lap

  33. #33

    Thumbs up Well done

Well, according to the official stats:
    Code:
Position Team Links Checked Bad Links Found
        1 Free-DC 115508506 193
        2 Ars Technica 114088692 319
...congratulations are in order. I envy the capability you folks have of mobilizing resources for a particular target - something we at Ars seem to have lost along the way.

    'til next time!

    Two things

I think the main reason we mobilised on Red Library was that someone was extremely disrespectful to PCZ, well it P'ed me off anyway.

There is also lots of history between Ars and Free DC.

Now if you are envious of us you can always sort that easily. We could always do with a good cruncher like you Darkstar.

    The door is always open.

I actually did crunch some project or other under the Free-DC banner some years ago, but memory fails as to which or why. Guess I'll stay with Ars for now, though - been there (almost) since I started DC, and it's sort of a "my mother, drunk or sober" type thing, I guess. But thanks for the invite, nonetheless!
